There was a guy at work who used to make his boy dig trenches in his yard when the kid got out of line or did stupid things. Needless to say if Duck was his kid that trench would circle the world. Twice.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say most kids aren't brought up that way.
Who says he doesn't notice? Maybe he chooses to stay enthusiastic in spite of everything.
