I don't see Telltale coming up with a new engine until next-gen consoles are released (and even if they do, it probably won't be used in any games before next-gen). They might pull a Bethesda and just keep slapping new effects and optimizations onto their current engine (I hope not, Gamebryo sucks). They may even use an engine that isn't in-house, but of course, that would also slow down development due to unfamiliarity.
But just imagine The Walking Dead with the comic artstyle and Cryengine 3's lighting

. Not going to happen, but I can always hope
At the very least, the game could use some better textures, everything is pretty muddy.
