Looking at the file size I fear your prefs.prop got corrupted and lost the association with the savegames and decision data.
You can try if you can restore it using the "restore previous version" feature (right click, "properties", "restore previous version") on that prefs.prop.
Your dxdiag shows some crashes, which are common on Windows 8 with gamepads/joysticks connected. They can be the cause of prefs.prop corruption, if they also happened just before you lost your savegames.
If the restore feature doesn't work, you can zip and upload your backed up prefs.prop and .save files and post a link in a reply. I can check if i can recover some of your progress.

Thanks for the reply and willingness to help. I tried to use the 'restore previous version'...it didn't work.
As to the gamepad...I guess it's conceivable that that could have been the problem. I never knew that I couldn't have my 360 controller plugged into my machine when trying to launch TWD until I did it. Honestly, I'm not sure if that's when the problem originated...but I guess it could have been...
