Default The Monkey Island abbreviations

Knights of the Old Republic have them, Vampire the Masquerade have them and now Monkey Island have them. Well technically they've had them for a long time though people haven't used them much ...... UNTIL NOW!
Here they are:
SMI - The Secret of Monkey Island
MI2 - Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (gives that Terminator feeling T2 lol)
CMI - The Curse of Monkey Island
EMI - Escape from Monkey Island
ToMI - Tales of Monkey Island (pronounced Tommy lol)

and my favourite:
SMISE - The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition

So now that you know the abbreviations for each, use them alot in chat and on here but use them wisely my padawans lol.
Beat that KoTOR, VTMB, COD and WOW. Feel the might of SMISE.

So spread the word of these abbreviations to all Monkey Island communities and what not.

Why is ToMI not TMI if CoMI is CMI?

(that question DID make sense...)

It's definitely TMI to me even if that could mean "too much information". Blame Curse's THX parody for that.

And SMISE should be SMI:SE in my opinion (IMO)

SMI
SMI:SE
MI2
CMI
EMI
TMI

I just call them Secret, Secret SE, Revenge, Curse, Escape and Tales. Longer but more natural

Yeah, I sometimes call CMI, Curse and TMI, Tales. Not really sure what I call the other ones in that format XD

Didn't Dave Grossman said it was funnier to abbreviate CMI with "COMI"?

I know it's funnier to abbreviate Tales as TMI.

As long as you don't abbreviate the fourth game as EFMI. One time, my friend asked me what game I was playing, to which I replied "Eff me". He gave me this bewildered look until I had realized what I'd said.

Call it whatever you want. The fact is to abbreviate it.

Yeah, they have. SMI / MI1, MI2, CMI and EMI are well established abbreviations for the MI games.

Why would you ommit the "o" in SMI and CMI and the "f" in EMI, while keeping the "o" in TMI?

Well it's better ToMI than TMI since ToMI comes out as "Tommy" which is pretty nifty. Like with The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition is SMISE which sounds like some tight rich dude lol.

Announcing acronyms for people to use is never going to work unless you have some authority over the title (e.g. if Ron Gilbert declared acronyms for the first two). I'm certainly going to continue using TMI. I think I've been using MI:SE and MI1 too, but I won't necessarily stick with those.

What the above poster said! Everyone has their own abbreviations. As long as they're not something stupid like, MILR for MI2, people will understand them. People just need to keep in mind that if they abbreviate something they have to be aware of what the other person might interpret it as!

Person 1: I like how you have to use the pink frilly pants in MI3D
Person 2: Pink frilly pants? That is TMI!
Person 1: But that's what you have to do!
Person 2: What?
Person 1: Eh?
*MAJOR CONFUSION*

That's cool, that's fine. It's not like I'm shoving it down your throat at gunpoint lol.

Just that these abbreviations could be used like many POPULAR games have their abbreviations used alot and we want to give the Monkey Island series that full treatment.

But we HAVE been using these abbreviations for almost 20 years!

And the Monkey Island games ARE popular, they just haven't been around in a long time. How do you think it managed to take down the Telltale site on release?

If I had a £1 for every user that joined in June or July of this year...

You'd owe yourself £1.
