I tried launching the game today for the first time since I completed it a week or two back and it just comes up with an error message :"Telltale Games has encountered a problem" etc etc... I doubt it's anything to do with my PC specs, as I was able to play the whole game when it first came out without a single problem.
I re-downloaded the game to see if this helped but still the same problem. I've tried tinkering with firewall settings but nothing seems to be working. Sam And Max: Abe Lincoln Must Die still works though.

Any suggestions?

Try it when you are disconnected from the Internet.

It might be similar to this bug I found.

Nope, still the same problem. The error message I get is the one in my attachment, by the way.

Since it worked before, have you tried uninstalling and deleting the savegames?

Okay, then let's start from the top.

Start dxdiag:
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Now you have two options to make it accessible for us. Pick the one that works best for you:
  1. If you know how, you can zip the file and attach it to a message.
  2. You can upload it to Rapidshare and copy the link to the file into a new message.

Afterwards try one of these depending on your Operating system.

Msconfig for Windows XP:
To Boot Clean in Windows XP

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart
8. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.

After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click OK
4. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer

Based on Will's post

Msconfig for Windows Vista:

7. Click on OK
8. Click Restart.
