guybrush is NOT an inspector clouseau (from pink panther fame) who just ACCIDENTALLY solves everything. he's actually a deeper thinker who usually plays his hands close to the chest so nobody KNOWS what he's up to. sure SOMETIMES he bungles into an solution, but usually he has a clear goal in mind. usually he's actually very cleverly manipulating other people into doing things that benefit his plan. what, you think he was just being STUPID when he was convincing morgan to do "recon" on that guy? how can you not see that he had a plan that whole time?
for some reason it offends me, when people assume that just because he improvises a lot that means he's an imbecile. guybrush is NOT a moron, he just doesn't do everything in a conventional way. which is his charm, really.
replay all the games, you'll see what i mean.

Its people like you who force their opinion on others which offends me

I have replayed every Monkey Island game the past 2 months, even the dreaded Escape and Guybrush is by all means not the highly intelligent person you make him out to be.
Nobody ever said he is a moron or Inspector Clouseau, but his "geekyness", and the way he is so clumsy half of the time are the things that make us laugh.
The way I see Guybrush, and the way I like him, is that he is just an ordinary person like you and me. No moron, but certainly not a highly intelligent lifeforce. The reason we like Guybrush so much is because he reminds us of ourselves. Who doesn't want to be a mighty pirate?
The reason he can manpulate others is not because he is so smart, it's because they are so stupid. The manipulation doesn't work on Elaine for instance.
In my eyes, Guybrush is the only sane person in a world of fools.
In the land of the blind, one eye is king.
And besides why should we all have the same picture of Guybrush. I think it's quite nice everybody can give another reason for his behaviour or think differently about the character. There is no "right" or "wrong" here.
Even tough the "die hard fanboys" like yourself who think they are the only ones who ever played Monkey Island and are the only ones who are right, try to keep the others from having their own interpretation

.
I started playing MI1 20 years ago and still have fond memories of it. And I think its great Telltale gives the younger generation a chance to get to know Guybrush, even though they are changing him a bit.
