Somebody mentioned the "hard core Christians" would be the only audience who cares about there being gay jokes, but I don't think so. I don't think hard core Christians would even play a game with pirates, voodoo, and mythical creatures. But then there aren't many quality games aimed toward Christians, so maybe they secretly would.
This isn't really true. I consider myself a hardcore Christian and I love such games. The terms "ultra-conservative Christians" or "legalistic Christians" are more fitting.

Agreed, you must've been thinking of legalists. Also, this thread is still funny

This thread will never die until Telltale pledge to clean up their act and removed the scandalous filth from their depraved and evil games. BAN THIS SICK FILTH!

What is a legalistic Christian? I've never come across that term before.. Is that someone who takes all of the christian-holy-book-thing literally?

No. An ultra conservative or legalist is someone who thinks following rules is what being a Christian is all about and enforces them condemning-ly on other people.

Hehe, hadnt noticed this thread before. To see sexual references in those island names, well I guess you can only have the fun you make yourself. Since we are all at some point focused on sex and anything that might refer to it, it is rather easy to have anything turn out to be sexual references, as the thread starter clearly showed. "Elaine, come over here for a second."... such an obvious sexual reference, he wants her to... you probably get my point. Its hard to find anything that cannot be put in a sexual context somehow. Fish, spoon, mermaids (duh, what was the tale about them to begin with?), beaches...

Isle of Ewe, yes it makes some references. Uncommon to Monkey Island? Well, Largo did happen to have a bra in his laundry and I guess you must have missed the part trying to "pick up" a certain female captain in MI2.

Sexual references are supposed to be in adventure games. Even noticing some of those sexual reference and others doesnt, just proves they are hidden. Not something a preteen person would notice first time seeing it. And just a fair warning... dont play any Leisure suit Larry games

There have been sexual references but most of them are of the type that would go over the heads of those too young or blissfully ignorant. My old school librarian had a philosophy for books with jokes or references of that nature; either the reader won't understand and would probably go on not understanding or they would understand and think little of it.

It's only when we get older that we begin to consider how appropriate certain things should be in popular entertainment.

Yeah, Guybrush's first mate does appear to have a crush on him. Are you a homophobic or do you think that being exposed to a fully clothed gay character who doesn't (or, at least hasn't) engaged in any on-screen sexual activity might cause youngsters to become gay?

I think the crack about Thai lady boys is more racist than anything else as it portrays a stereotype. But, then, younger players probably won't understand the cultural reference and simply laugh at the term 'lady boy(s)'. Which they mightn't even look at in a sexual light, they may just consider it a reference to the species apparent androgyny and share our protagonist’s confusion as to whatever sex the various merfolk happen to be.

In any case, I'm given to suspect that the game's current market is mostly made up of nostalgic adults between 20 something and 40 something.

Ladyboy isn't racist because it's a stereotype, making a joke based on the idea of Thai boys that dress as girls and then prostitute themselves isn't a race issue at all other than that the terminology is based on the fact that transvestite prostitutes from a certain area are more androgynous than those in say Phoenix, AZ.

Also, I would say that if a person is bothered or offended by the innuedo (no, in YOUR endo) that they may want to rethink watching prime time television, or leaving the house for that matter. Why is America so up tight about sex?

I never got this impression at all. Why does everyone think this?

winslow is kind of very open minded...he has no greater interest in guybrush than he has in the ship. he just puts everything in a sexual context or at least expresses himself in ways that make it seem that way. he was probably stuck on flotsam for too long...with the only female being the voodoo lady if i remember correctly.

I never got that impression either. To me the scene sounded like:

"Isle of Ewe"
Winslow, embarassed about being told "I love you" by a man: "Er, don't we have more important things to do right now? Let's talk about that later, ok?"
Guybrush "Haha, very funny joke"
Windlow: "oh, yeah, a joke." (relieved sigh)

Not that I think it's a problem if Windlow IS interested in GB. Sure, why not. I just didn't interpret it that way at all, so it felt weird when everybody was saying he is.

He does seem far too into seeing Guybrush point at the map. That's just not platonic.

I can't believe no one noticed LeFlay's flirting with Guybrush and then she's disappointed when Guybrush didn't notice or care.

And all the references to manatee mating rituals.

And of course, there is Grog XD.

Now that's a definition of platonic I wasn't aware of before.
