Default anyone think that tales might introduce the first openly gay charecter in MI

I sorta get the vibe from the adult themed jokes and ennuendos (not a hate post I love thoes jokes ^^) that they might introudce an openly gay charecter unless they allready did with DeSinge..or the merfolk

I doubt Van Winslow is gay. If anything he'd like The Todd on Scrubs, open for anything. And I mean anything!

Good point, and he's seen pretty much anything and everything too. I forget now but something I triggered once had him "racall a time with a comely wench, that...". Guybrush quickly put in he didn't want to know the details.

Okay, why not? I think this whole era of keeping gay people away from any film/TV shows/games that kids might be seeing needs to end. It's really not something that should be hidden away and treated as taboo.

True, but the character shouldn't be designed as what people called "typical" (pink clothes, feminine gestures and butterfly wings). It's just a wrong impression.

Indeed there are a lot of gay stereotypes in the realm of monkey island (Anemone "Hello Sailor :3", Perfume dude from EMI, Cabana Boy [sweater around the neck], even the harbor lady from EMI got some whole-lotta-lesbo going on >__> )
But taking the whole "gay" subject seriously doesn't sell well in games-industry, but including some stereotypes might be experienced as "funny", but the rest just gets way too close and real, which people usually do not prefer if they're not comfortable with the gays to begin with

Hm, from a commercial point of view, it's probably better not to risk anything, but giving hints and causing rumours and vague personality-images can be funny, if you do it the right way.

I really didn't know what to make of the first episode of the Naruto series. I couldn't understand it from a writer's point of view. You know what I mean?

Still, it -would- be rather illogical to refrain "the gay" from a pirate game xD they regularly... shivered each others timbers? : o

Hmn, if you want to include rumours and vague signs instead of stereotype characteristics it would seem more like some form of mockery towards the subject xD
that's not gonna help x3
still, maybe -anything- gay is even illegal in some countries

BELIEVE IT!!

As far as I remember the MI games have always made funny sidenotes on the "sexual preferences" of certain characters. Though what didn't happen yet is that the game openly yelled it out.
Also it seemed those "sidenotes" were never to be taken seriously. They never seemed to be more than just a practical joke (like for example the bra from Largo) in MI 2)
I think in ToMI people are reading way to much into (for example) the "Isle of Ewe" joke or the dialogue with the merpeople.

My belly hurt of laughing hard at the "Isle of Ewe" joke, totally unexpected!

I dunno if MI is a game that really deals with sexuality in more than a joking sense.

But maybe?

Now that TellTale is actually adding some 'romantic depth' into the Monkey Island series, I wouldn't know what to expect :3

I assumed Winslow was gay, more from the comment about needing a fake wife in Lair of the Leviathan than the Isle of Ewe thing. I don't think I heard the comely wench line. Maybe he's bisexual?

I don't expect the silly pirate series to deal with sexuality in depth, but non straight characters are an enjoyable bonus.

By the way, man who likes to wear women's clothing isn't necessarily gay. Most transvestites are straight.

That clears everything up nicely.

I laughed out loud when someone above said

"if they are comfortable with the gays"

anywayyy

I don't think they need to explicitly state that it is one way or another, but perhaps a same sex relationship will come up. As it is a computer game I see it happening with two girls before two guys but you never know, the MI fanbase seems to be pretty open minded. I would be happy to see either CASUALLY inserted and not made fun of. They could be FUNNY but I would hope they didn't mock.

In all reality though they will probably stay away from it.

...though the lady at the docks in EMI / The Game the Shall Not Be Named was deffo a lesbo

What about Sims? They are coded to be bisexual, with the exception of Nintendo versions. It didn't stop them from having several addons sold and a successor as well.

I really never though about that scene in that way. Clearly by the comment when he ditches the dress, he did find this humiliating. It was just the only way to reach his beloved. In a sexual sense, though, the guard seemed to find him attractive that way.
