Default Runaway: A Twist of Fate

So, the sequel to the Runaway series is out today, just wondering if anyone had made the purchase for it yet?

I enjoyed the first two alot, and I know I will get the third installment eventually, but it won't be for a while. So Telltalers, any comments?

Today?! Smashing!

The last one ended like it had been cut with a chainsaw, so it will be great to see how the story is resolved.

I'll try to save Twist of Fate for Christmas, but might replay Dream of the Turtle before then.

I've heard that it's predecessors are better and that this one was a bit of a let-down. I guess I'll just have to wait and see for myself. Apparently Joshua has a different voice actor .

Yeah I've heard that there are a few different voice actors. =[ I'm just glad they've taken the 'breaking the 4th wall' thing out of it.

wait, i played the first game and thought it was awful, and i've read some pretty bad (average of 5\10) reviews about the second. You're telling me that those are now considered 'the good games'? how low can it get?

Personal opinion~

I've played the old point'n'click favourites(MI, Sam&Max, Kings Quest, etc), love em, and I love the Runaway series just as much. I don't get why you think the first one is so awful, but again, it's your personal opinion and I respect that.

Because, for one example, Brian wouldn't put his hand in a trough of mud to get a spanner out of it that he desperately needed. What?

Ridiculous.

Would you?

That said, I still hold up the 'peanut butter' puzzle as a perfect example of the illogical nature of this series.

I remember cursing at Guybrush in Monkey Island 3 because he wouldn't search through the puddle of mud with his bare hands to find the gold tooth in front of the Chicken Bar. Sounds similar?!

For me, the first one will always be a little special by virtue of when it was produced - a time when I thought adventure gaming was pretty much dead forever (2003, a very sad year). But as far as I recall (been a few years since I played it), it's an enjoyable adventure.

The second one is a step down in my opinion because a) Brian morphs from hot nerd into gross wannabe surfer dude, and b) the ending is very unfulfilling (mostly just a segue into Runaway part 3).

I'd recommend the first one at least, but online reviews would be far more objective than I.

...Okay, that was pretty horrible, haha.

Ended up getting Twist of Fate, and I must say I'm enjoying it alot. I was a little confused about the storyline for a while there, but overall I think the game is a big step up from the previous two, and I'm probably in the minority, but I am really enjoying the new voice actors.

The only problem I have with it at the moment is some of the items seem to blend into the background a little -too- well. I've been stuck a couple of times where pixel hunting was the solution.

My A Twist of Fate review is up at Adventure Gamers. I ended up enjoying the game a lot. My biggest complaint is probably the lack of camera movement, but since it's not in 3D they can't really do that. I guess Telltale's style has spoiled me.

I really liked the way the storyline alternated between past and present and then the two parts converged at the end.

I'd like to read it, Emily, but fear spoiling the game for myself - how spoilery is your review?
