I thought the secret was pretty much revealed in the first one too. All the t-shirts and the grog machine just kinda went over my head as anything else but a gag!
I think a lot of people just want an explanation to the ending of Monkey 2. Over the years that just kind of became 'the secret'. Loving the Lost/Planet of the Apes pics btw
