Default Star Wars in 3-D...

Well, it seems George Lucas has jumped aboard the bandwagon and decided to release all of the six Star Wars films in 'eye-popping 3D'. Oh joy. I guess Mr. Lucas just sees this 3D gimmick as another chance to milk the Star Wars franchise even more in order to make some big dollars. I guess he sees no problem in making this brilliant series just another part of this mundane, stupid, idiotic, superficial fad that appeals more to people with the minds of 5-year-old's who will buy into pretty visuals, rather than something that appeals to actual movie-goers. Okay, I may have been a bit harsh there, and this whole thing may not be that much of a big deal, but hasn't George Lucas milked the Star Wars series enough? Heck, he's gotten to the point where he's no longer milking the series/franchise, he's now bleeding it for all that it's worth; all the drops of money that still remain in what some may consider a dead carcass. This obviously isn't evident to Lucas, his eyes are only focused on the money at the moment, and he's probably going to make a lot of it as he rides the wave of success of this stupid '3-D' fad.

Anyway, how do you feel about this?

By the way, I actually think that some of the milking is good. I personally really like the prequels, there are still some good Star Wars games being produced, and I actually enjoy the Clone Wars TV series in small doses. However, I do not like the whole merchandising side of things. I also dislike the manner in which the Star Wars franchise is being exploited, as comics, books, TV shows, games, movies, etc. are not being made with the intention of expanding the universe or building upon the canon, but rather being made with the sole intention of making money.

I kind of want to see how it translates...but I mostly don't care. Indiana Jones in 3D..now that would be amazing. Melting Nazis...in 3D!

People claim 3D is just a rubbish fad, that nobody really likes, yet they keep making movies that use it. Why? Because it sells. Therefore, people want it. Simple logic.

As for GL milking starwars: Theres nothing forcing you to watch the films again. Plus the milking isn't all that bad, TBH. I mean, the films aren't even in HD yet! I maybe seeing a couple of the films.Seeing the first one (Phantom Menace, not new hope) will probably bring back some memories: It was the last film I saw with my Dad before he died.

Wouldn't it be possible that George Lucas, as an artist, is just this crazy that he's never happy with his own work and can't let it rest, and so messes with his old stuff until he thinks it's perfect, which it will never be to him?

I mean, if it was just about the money, I'd know WAY better ways to make money, such as making a new low quality film, slapping his name on it and going to great lengths to market it as THE great new science fiction movie of the summer.

I'm excited about it. I don't think that 3D is just a fad. I think that 3D is here to stay like the transition from black and white to color. I also don't think that 3D has to be done in a gimmicky way.

Well if Cameron can make mediocre movies that sell well in 3D (including a remake of Titanic) then Georgy must do the same.
I will stick to my DVD versions of Star Wars. No need for 3D. I never payed for a 3D movie and I never will.

I feel like since they were mostly green screen anyway, the prequels could make the transition to 3D pretty well. Of course, who wants to pay for the prequels again?

I don't care about 3D and, unless my family goes to see one of these movies I probably won't go see Star Wars in 3D. I would, however, go to see the originals re-released in theaters, since I never got the chance to see them on the big screen.

3D has been a fad since the 50's and it has waxed and waned throughout time. Right now it's slowly receding. But like high tide and low tide, it'll be back before long.

I know my partner will drag me to see them(are they being released in the cinemas?) whether I want to or not.. so luckily I don't mind. I'm a fan of 3D. I'm a fan of Star Wars. But both together.. I'm not too sure. Just have to wait and see!

I won't go see them because I've seen them before. I can watch them in glorious 1990's editions as soon as I hook up my TV with a VCR built that I have because I still have videos.

its the end of creativity, instead of creating new stuff you see the people using the money on the same stupid thing over and over.

I havent seen a creative good movie in a REALLY LONG TIME.
And no new franchises from LucasArts either. GL or LA or LF wont see any money from me until they create something different or keep making Special Edition adventures ^^.

Eh, this doesn't interest me much, even though I'm a big Star Wars fan, and I do tolerate the new movies.

Adding 3D to a movie that was not recorded in 3D rarely looks great. You often get that "layered" effect where it looks like there are four or five discrete layers of depth. In other words there's little 3D, just flat 2D objects with different distances from the camera.

Well, as much as I hate trends and CGI eye candy, Star Wars has aged so beautifully and I'm sort of curious how good he can get it looking in 3-D...
