I tried running Gabriel Knight but gave up. I have dosbox and did everything it told me to, but no luck.
There really isn't an exe file either which might be the problem. The sierra.exe kind of loads the game, but right away it says my sound driver had an error or something.
They need to make dosbox Quick+Easy

Gabriel Knight is a one disc, regular Sierra game. Gabriel Knight 2 is a FMV game on 6 discs but it's very easy to get it to work in XP. The third one should also work without much trouble in XP.

xCrhi5x - you did select soundblaster sound in the setup for the game? Try regular soundblaster if you didn't do that last time.

I got it working with that xp installer. One problem though, how do I get to the game menu? The only way I could get out of the game was by Ctrl alt del. I tried Esc, and all the F keys but nothing worked!

Try dosbox and the DOS installation.
For me, the DOS hi-res version worked better than the windows version.

Did you try moving your cursor all the way to the top of the screen?

Yeah last thing I read was an e-mail I got personally from Mark Crowe, which was so long ago it's been lost to the ages, he said that when he left Sierra they were planning an FPS, and he was working on SPace Quest for the Xbox, not really a sequal but a new game set in the same universe with a new main character. Both games were cancelled.

Yeah that's a fan project Linky apart from rumblings within the fan community I haven't heard much of any official speak for some time now.

I grew up playing the Sierra adventure games and thought that some of the games they made were pretty fun.

I especially like the GFG games since the storyline and gameplay in my opinion, is really good

In my opinion, I felt that the Lucas Arts adventures games were superior to most of the Sierra ones in terms of story and humor; not sure if I am in the minority, but I thought King's Quest was quite overrated. King's Quest is fun, but after playing the series for years, I felt that the storyling in all the games were unintentionally cheesy as in the game tries to be serious, but ends up being corny.

However, with that said, I really like Quest for Glory, Space, and Leisure Suit Larry and thought that they were as good as the Lucas Arts games.

And a good thing too. A group of people are working on SQ7, which is not sierra. Unfortunately there is no idea when it will actually be complete.

I'm better off with the LucasArts adventure games, the games they make in my mind are fun. But that is because I actually own them and play them once in a while when I can.

It helps that it's whole lot easier to get an old LA game to run (ScummVM) than it is to get an old Sierra game to run, if only some one could make something like ScummVM for SCI.

P.S. Can someone point me in the right direction for getting LSL 5-6 to run onmy computer.

silly bob... dont see why it should be so hard to make such a program..

Lsl-5-6 dont remember having problems running. Ill find the discs and reinstall and let you know asap. Which version of 6 you got windows or dos?
Both ran under dosbox for me ! 100%.. a few glitches are noted but even in the original on a real dos machine you still get these.. true game bugs.

I too never had issues running lsl 5-6 in the past 5 years.

You should use dosbox since that usually eliminates the issues one has installing a sierra game.

I wonder if the sq fangame will do justice to the series. Usually, fangames seems to be a lower quality to the official canon games in terms of storyline. That KQ2 remake by AGD interactive(no offense since I realize that they have a game up at the Telltale games store) was quiet not what I expected. The revised script read like a goth fanfic that heavily focused on the big bad wolf in Red Riding hood's house and Dracula. *shivers*

There is always that KQ9 fangame that Vivindi officially gave permission to the fangroup after getting support from KQ fans. Hopefully, the storyline isn't cheesey.

I don't know what version it is actually, looking at the install screen I'd say dos, I found them in my brothers room a few days ago, when he was playing them I was too young and my parents wouldn't let me, man I wish I still had a DOS machine.

or just dual boot xp or vista/ win 98 se .. and install dos on that... works wonders.
No need for real hardware anymore as you can even use something like VPC and fool it to thinking you have old hardware.. like turtle beach rio! and rage 3d! Wooohooo I have a glide card! Whats glide.. yeaaa.. grr im old.

Doomsaber hisss! I agree on most of the fanmade games being bad in dialog but most are made in haste. I keep speaking of akril.. cant say enough good about her. She worked on the original story for the new kings quest before well.. stuff happened.
To see her writing style she made part of the script into an interactive webpage.. pretty cool considering. But in terms of writing.. hello dolly.

http://kq9.sq7.org/

notice again she uses sq7.org as her site :P muahaha

Read if you want! I did! Great storyline... esp for those that know the characters well.. not just the games.

I used to play any adventure game I could get my hands on so played nearly all lucasarts games and some of the sierra ones. I played space quests 4,5,6, Kings quest 2,3,4,5,6,7, Leisure suit Larry 6, phantasmagoria 1 and 2 and the 3 Gabriel Knight games. The GK games are easily the best and this summer i actually had chance to visit munich and go hunting for the places filmed in the game. I'm so sad :P

edit: How can i forget the police quest games? I played most of them even when they did the swat thing.
