Question Law & Order Los Angeles: FTW or WTF?

When I saw that Telltale had announced Law and Order, I was a bit worried about Telltale. These guys are going to work themselves into the ground if thay don't slow down soon. I'd rather have one or two good series a year than five back to back new and not-guaranteed-to-kick-off projects being announced every week or so.

Other than that, though, seriously, Telltale? Law and Order Los Angeles? I might understand a game based on the original show, but a spinoff that not a lot of people watch or care about? That's just going a little too far in my book.

I was never really a fan of the original show, but my parents watch it ALL THE FRICKIN' TIME! Looking at all these CSI-style shows they watch make me notice an odd pattern:
  • The Actors are either over the top or too subtle
  • Everything that happens is always either completely random or extremely predictable
  • All of the main characters could be interchanged with each other and nobody would notice the difference
  • and they talk WAY too quietly.

So, what do you think, guys?

Is Telltale getting in over their heads, going the right pace, or not doing things fast enough? And, as for the game, do you think it will be good, bad or just meh? Please explain.

Seriously? It's a law and order spinoff; in other words, it prints money.

This is not humanly possible.

Procedural shows sort of call for Hammy acting or nobody actors, and the entire point is you can guess what happened before it unfolds.

Also, how on earth did you not see the Law and Order forums I mean really

But what's the fun of watching a show if you know what's going to happen?

I only liked Law and Order when Jeff Goldblum came into the picture. Cause I like Jeff Goldblum. Wasn't a big fan of the show till he came around. But that didn't last long.

I don't care if it's being developed by Telltale. I wouldn't care if it was being developed by Nintendo. When I hear "Law and Order video game", I think "shovelware." =/

Honestly, I can't stand any Law and Order show, so this is like a very bad idea to me. But I know people love it so more power to them. Verdict: Meh.

Other: unsure.

Not meh, just unsure because it remains to be seen whether L&O:LA will be akin to CSI:.
If this is so, then "meh."

Whoa....what the heck? Where did this come from? At any rate I'm totally uninterested in Law & Order.

Don't get me wrong, I like all 3 CSI: shows, and have mild interest in Law & Order, but the CSI: games are not as interesting to me as watching the shows (ie. the CSI: games are "meh.") Therefore, if the LO:LA game is as much the same, then it is also meh.

My two cents:

This is another game that I will not be getting, even if it doesn't end up being shovelware, I can't stand the L&O franchise altogether.

What got me worried, even before this announcement, was Telltale's getting a jaw larger than Max's (Maybe they're aiming for Jaws: The Game).
The problem I have with that is quality, which has been lacking at least with the latest releases

Anyway, I don't want to turn this thread into a *whining* thread (too late)

My final analysis is:
1. I don't like L&O -> I won't buy a game based on it
2. Telltale is on the verge of a major crash & burn given the amount of licenses they're working on, the lack of improvement on gameplay (and puzzles!) and the diminishing polish the games are getting.

I did play one of the CSI games on Xbox out of curiosity (never seen the show. I don't watch tv.)

Excitement! Danger! Comedy! Intrigue! Drama and heartbreak!
It was none of these things.

Wikipedia lists CSI as a Crime Drama... but the characters of the show didn't really provide any story or drama. It had the emotional weight of a Hidden Object game.
Law & Order is described as a police procedural-legal drama, so I'll expect the same here.

I'm of the opinion that anything Telltale games makes is gold, but probably only because I pretend these TV Drama games don't exist.

These "TV Drama" games could just as easily have been made by any other company out there and they always end up in those bins at the store next to 2,000 Solitaire games, Bejeweled, and 20 variations of Mahjong or casino games. Since they don't stand out, I don't really consider them "Telltale" games.

Telltale's gotta pay the bills to make all those other great games.

Aw, they're just miffed that it's not CSI: Ponyland.....
(and that there are unlikely to be any islands with monkeys on in it, either)
