Thanks for the list. Much appreciated.

Am I the only one who thinks the 'Pro Controller' looks familiar..?

The design works, why break what's not broken? Besides, it's not like Microsoft has a copyright on analog sticks, d-pads, and ABXY buttons.

Definitely looks like a controller I'd play Smash Bros. with. The pad is cool and all, but that just looks more comfortable for a game like Smash.

I also like what I've seen of that Mario game. Proves that HD games don't have to be hyper-realistic to look pretty.

Personally I'm not a huge fan on where the control sticks are, but I guess I won't really know unless I get my hands on one and actually try it to see how it feels. It just seems kind of weird looking at it.

...yeah, the placement of the left stick on the 360 controller is what I DON'T like about it... now it's twice as bad to me. I'm not writing the console off because of it, but I still don't like the placement.

I have to laugh at the ABXY buttons though. If you own both consoles, that's really going to fuck up QTE for you.

Super Nintendo buttons are ordered the same way (as the Classic Controller). Speaking of which, I'm not sure I like where they put the ABXY buttons on that WiiU controller. I like the Classic Controller Pro for Wii better.

EDIT: Hey, whatever happened to the idea of changing the WiiU's name (which came as a result of the 3DS cartridge confusion)? I really was interested in the console having a more respectable name.

I know they're the same.... as is the wiiu gamepad, but I didn't switch from playing my snes to the 360 very often(for the brief time I owned a 360). I also don't remember many snes titles having very many QTEs(or onscreen prompts at all for that matter). It's a little different when you're thinking of it as "the jump button" instead of A or B.

The "changing of the name" was wishful thinking on the part of "industry analysts". Please note, these are the same kind of people that predicted doom and gloom for the 3DS, which is now really soaring. *shrugs* If people would remember how Nintendo used to name their consoles, then they wouldn't be shocked by these kinds of things. NES-SNES, Game Boy-Game Boy Pocket-Game Boy Color-Game Boy Advance-Game Boy Advance S, DS-DS Lite-DSi-3DS. All in the same family, just an addition to the name. It's no different than PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3.

Also, we're talking about Nintendo "ripping off" the 360 controller, while Microsoft unveiled SmartGlass which is essentially doing a lot of things that the Wii U GamePad does. Except that SmartGlass works with a Tablet that you have to spend 400 some odd dollars on.

I actually like the 360 layout, which is still slightly different from that Wii U one. I like the sticks offset. Feels more balanced in my hand like the weight is distributed evenly, rather than putting both thumbs in the same areas on either side of the controller, which is a little awkward. A gripe I have with both the Wii Classic and PS3 controllers.

I really don't like the size or placement of those ABXY buttons on the WiiU classic controller.

I placed my hands on my 360 controller (which I use for PC gaming) to compare with that image and it looks as if, when my thumb is placed in the area where the WiiU's right thumbstick would be, the A and B buttons would then be so close to the base of my thumb that I'd have to move my wrist to reach them comfortably. Likewise, your hand's position on the controller while your thumb is over the ABXY buttons is such that when you'd move your thumb up to the thumbstick, you do also move your wrist.

This as opposed to the 360's button placement where I confirmed I can comfortably reach the buttons and the stick without moving my wrist at all.

Rayman Legends looks like a great WiiU game. It confirmed for launch?

Considering that this is the company that brought us the GameCube controller, I'm really surprised that they placed the face buttons on the bottom half of the controller. But then, if I can handle using a PlayStation controller with the left stick on the bottom half of the controller, this might work.

“Waaah, we don't like change or having to get used to new things.” It looks wierd because it's new. With a bit of time I doubt it would be hard to get used to. Every new type of controller looks hard at first. That said 360 controllers confuse me. -Posted from my Wii

I didn't say "hard to use" I said "comfortable." And I don't just mean comfortable in using just those four buttons, but comfortable to switch between the buttons and the right stick without too much movement of the whole hand.

...your pricing is way off. One of the more popular tablet models in the Android space, the Kindle Fire, is $199.99. Smart Glass also works with phones, and is mroe about pushing content(like video and music) from a portable device that you use to consume multimedia content than it is intended to be used as a controller. The Madden plays are kind of neat but pretty superfluous overall. Nobody is going to be making Glass-focused games.

They're Nintendo, so I bet they'll get it right, but the thing about Nintendo is that they're all about being different than the status quo so I'm skeptical because they could very well do so to a fault.

Hey, someone else who uses Kotaku! I'm not alone! Maybe people will stop mocking me for it now. Maybe.

As I said in another post there in reference to the consoles having either 8 or 32Gbs of HDD space:
Quote:
I'm concerned. In an age where digital distribution is getting bigger, 32Gb simply isn't enough. Hell, the discs can store 25Gbs, and the biggest HDD isn't even 1½ times that? This isn't thinking ahead! I can only hope you can install a bigger HDD on your own, like with the PS3, otherwise that's a massive design flaw.
I am aware you can add USB HDDs, but that's not a particularly attractive idea if you like keeping your consoles clutter free as I do. It feels more like a tacked-on solution - much like how the USB HDDs will look, I'd imagine. Ha!
