It's really not like that series at all. It's like Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, but with far more categories of things to collect to beat the game in elaborate ways for elaborate reasons. It's very polarizing for this reason, as many people felt it went completely overboard in terms of collectathon platforming. I loved it personally. It's a very lengthy, difficult game, but really fun, memorable, and charming.

Count me among those Who hate DK64. Lived the basic mechanics and works, the collecting just was too tedious.

Nah I don't hate it, just disliked that element of it. I actually remember loving it quite a but at first.
