Can I buy one download for BOTH my mac and pc?
I know telltale will let you download the game on multiple computers you own but what about across platforms? I've searched the forums and can't find anything about it. I don't want to buy from Steam but I will because they have "SteamPlay" which lets me buy one game and play it on both my Windows desktop and my MacBook.

You can play on Mac and PC as well if you bought the game in the TTG store, as long as there is a Mac version of the game of course, which is true for most of the games.
