Not to be 'that guy', but we're drifting away from the topic of Zelda here and more into stuff that should be in the Wii U thread.

What you say does sound about right though, Shadow. ESPECIALLY what you say about Metroid. God, that game was terrible.

Funny, I was only putting up the popular opinion of the game. I'm in the minority that thoroughly enjoyed the game. But as you say, drifting away from Zelda...which is bound to happen when there's no Zelda related news to really bring up...

I have a strong desire to start playing Wind Waker again.

I love that game, there's just one thing that bugs me every time I play that, and it's the Triforce gathering quest...why couldn't that just be dungeons...

I believe they cut out at least one (Jabu Jabu anyone?), so that could have been another casualty.

fixed.

You know, I did always think that getting that Nayru's Pearl was way too easy.

Gathering the Triforce+charts in Wind Waker didn't feel as tedious to me as finding the Goddess Cubes+chests in Skyward Sword.

Getting all the figurines made. Now, that is tedious.

Yeah, I could feel the distinct absence of a dungeon, it was almost comical. 'Are you sure you just want to give this to me? You don't need to put me through some kind of test, or need me to rescue your daughter before you give this to me, or anything?'

Also the first time I played WW I hadn't been collecting maps as I went along, so when I got to the triforce quest I just quit for like a year. When I started playing again I started the game over and got the map every time I saw the fish, and that made a huge difference. "Get the maps as you go" is a key point in my advice every time one of my friends tells me they're planning to play it now.

Okay, no. Have to disagree with you here. My reason? The Goddess Cubes and the Figurines are OPTIONAL. The Triforce charts and pieces are NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE GAME.

I think it's better than the alternative. If they were to make you go through a dungeon for the third pearl, you'd have two dungeons back to back with no overworld gameplay between them. And I thought it was a funny change of pace to yank the rug out from under the player and not make us go through a dungeon.

I guess the way I see it is that the Tower of the Gods takes the place of the dungeon that you would otherwise go through for Nayru's Pearl.

Erm...I did that once. The only way I'd ever do it again is if I lost that save file, which I very nearly did once.

I'm completionist, though (albeit not dedicated enough to play for the sole purpose of collecting figurines) so the fact that the Goddess Cubes are optional makes them more tedious, imo, because I have little reason to bother for the most part.

EDIT: also, sailing isn't that big a deal in Wind Waker because, unlike Skyward Sword, you can just set your sail and let the game do all the work of getting you there.

Oh dear, that is just so wrong.

Almost as wrong as making a playthrough using the name Ganon.

I've tried that, and ended up swimming, courtesy of a Gyorg (or a Seahat).

yes, but that's only an occasional issue, whereas flying in Skyward Sword requires constant attention or else you go nowhere.

That's actually what I like about it. I dislike the overworld where you can just set the controller down.

Bumping with relevant news. In a Nintendo Direct presentation today, it was revealed that the Wii U Zelda game is supposedly going back to the roots of the series, looking at things like the linear progression through dungeons and such. No real info other than vague promises.

What ISN'T vague is that we will get something to tide us over. Nintendo is upping The Wind Waker to HD to release on the Wii U this Fall. And it looks amazing.

A couple of screenshots. Chose small sized ones for forum courtesy.

I saw that story yesterday and I'd need to see it in motion before I can really judge how it looks. Screenshots can be deceptive and as pretty as they look, I'm concerned about the cell-shaded art style being lost or diminished somewhat due to the HD process.

My biggest question though is: Why Wind Waker, possibly the most decisive game the franchise has ever had?

Wind Waker is the oldest game in the series that would look awesome in HD without totally redoing everything. It makes sense to me.
