Gave up on Giana Sisters, which is REALLY painful.

I just spent 90 minutes on level 6, but had to give up on it due to time constraints. I won't be able to start off where I left, I would have to do the entire level again. I won't do that.

The calculation is a rational one. I don't have that kind of time. The game will get more difficult with time. I can not save in a level. I will need 2-3 hours to finish levels, possibly even more. It's not the patience. I've got plenty patience. But I can't spend that much time in a single sitting. I'm not 14 any more, there are things besides games in my life, some good, some unfortunately necessary.

Giana Sisters is a cute little piece of work, but I can't finish it. The individual challenges of those levels are hard enough, but with no time to pause and continue where you left off, absolutely impossible for a grown person with some daily chores and without the reflexes of a jet pilot. I will never again help a company kickstart their games if they promise an "old school experience". Old school sucks. Old school is designers not knowing how to motivate their players. Old school is developers priding themselves with how hard their games are. Old school is game makers who feed on people's frustration instead of giving them a good time.

I think the original players of the GianaSisters game have all grown up, while BlackForest Games' designers obviously haven't.

Jesus. Give me a bit, I'll see if he's over-reacting or not.

EDIT: HE'S NOT. Man, if ever there was a brick wall 'do not continue' section in a game, Level 1-6 would be made of it. A full-on maze full of walls you cannot touch because they're full of insta-death? FUCK THAT.

It's a massive shame, 'cause I was actually really enjoying it up til that point, frustrations and all. But that?

Just... no.

Same here. It's rare for me too. Normally I play about 1 hour of a game and take a break. 2-3 hours for one level without a real save would be undoable. I guess I'll scratch that game off my wantlist.
The opposite with Xcom. It's painfully hard (if you set it that way) but you can save and quit whenever you want and resume from the same spot. And it was actually good enough to make me play it all day.

After "just" 28 minutes, I assure you that you ain't seen nothin' yet.

The really sad thing was, I was at the level boss after those 90 minutes. But I HAD to quit at that last mile.

Surprise, it's a Friday release! You can pick up Lucius, a game inspired by several classic horror movies, for the special launch price of $17.99, 10% off the normal, 20 dollar price tag.

But the horror season is quickly ending, so let's move on to the winter season! Check out the weekend deal of 50% off games made by studios in countries that descended from vikings! That includes Alan Wake, Trine, The Longest Journey and more!

isn't that just 10% off?
Also: it's 15% off on Steam.

I'VE MANAGED TO BEAT 1-6.

And afterwards, things work peachy again immediately. Unfortunately, come 2-5, it's back to biting pieces out of your keyboard again. I actually beat 2-5; but the darn game doesn't let me proceed to 2-6 because it thinks I haven't collected enough crystals. Oh those darn....

We have the... most adequate of both worlds, I guess... today from GOG. For people who like new games, you can pick up Defender's Quest, an RPG/tower defense game for $14.99, or the special launch price of $9.99. Prefer the old games? Then you can have John Romero's classic game franchise, Dangerous Dave. That's three games, for only $5.99.

No Gem Promo today, but enjoy a 48 hour, 50% off Halloween sale on some of the least scary games GOG has to offer. And, SURPRISE, another new release. Pick up Pid for $9.99, on PC or Mac.

Today, GOG gives us two old games that are new actually games. Yeah, it's confusing. I'm talking Stronghold HD for $5.99 and Stronghold Crusader HD for $9.99. However, since they are technically new games, since these HD versions were scheduled for release today, they have a launch week promo of 20% off. And yes, both packages come with the original games, too.

2-6 concludes the second level complex of Twisted Dreams.

It actually wasn't as bad as 1-6 surprisingly; but I think I must have spent 40 minutes on the final boss until I finally got that motherfucker down.

Gibbeynator, I notice that over time your posts regarding GOG announcements have become increasing more sarcastic and cynical. Could it be that you begin to tire of your self-appointed role of GOG announcement guy?

If it makes you feel any better, I appreciate your efforts on the front. I don't check GOG nearly as often as I should and this thread has pointed me to a number of new game announcements I probably would have missed otherwise. Continue your diligence, good sir, for you have at least one fan in the bowels of these unwashed masses.

No more so than me in the Steam thread, I guess.

Nah, I'm good, that's just my very lame attempt at being funny.

Anyway, for the people who did NOT pick up Theme Hospital and Crusader during the Mac Essentials sale, now's your chance! It's the Massive EA Selection sale, which includes all of the EA games except for, you guessed it, the ones that were released in the past few weeks. Check out the classics from Origin, Bullfrog and other companies EA had absorbed for a whopping 60% off!

I picked up Theme Hospital because that was the only thing in that sale that I cared about and didn't already own. Though, I guess it might be wise to get all of these games, in the event that EA decides they don't need GOG anymore and launches Origin Classics.

So, this was unexpected. Oh, not today's release of Deponia 2, that's been expected for a while. I'm talking about GOG apparently signing Capcom as a publisher on their service, and selling Street Fighter Alpha 2 for $5.99.

Maybe that was the big announcement they hinted at earlier. There are some really cool old CAPCOM games, so this could be really great!
