I don't know. I think the problem they'll have with a second season is that they obviously can't bring Lee back. If the new protagonist is going to be someone completely new, they'd have to either start them from the very beginning of the zombie apocalypse or introduce them to the players somewhere in the middle of it so that they're basically at the same point where Lee and company are at in Episode 5. And there are some obvious problems with both approaches. If we start again from the beginning, it will feel like going backward and repeating a lot of the same ground we already covered in Season 1. If we're just thrown into a whole new group of survivors without seeing the journey they took to get to that point, it will be too much exposition to dump on players and we still won't be as invested in their personal stories as we would be if we had actually played through those events.
Picking up with one of the surviving characters from Season 1 makes sense because we're already acquainted with their back story and it allows us to just pick up right where the last season left off. That basically means Clementine, Christa and Omid, or Molly (Vernon seemed like kind of a minor character who's already served his purpose, so I kind of doubt we'll be seeing him again). I wouldn't expect the timeline to advance too far ahead, and I think there would probably be some resistance to making the main character a little girl. So I don't think it'll be Clem. If it's going to be anyone from Season 1, I would bet on Molly. She was a likable character and again, her story left the most unanswered questions to build upon later.

How would it be unrealistic? It's not your classic comic book scenario of a character just being brought back to life since in no case is she ever confirmed to be dead. And we've already seen that she's capable of getting out of tight spots on her own. It would, by no means, be the most unrealistic situation a character has managed to survive in any incarnation of
The Walking Dead, whether it be the video game, the comic, or the TV show. Again, look at Tyreese.
You may be right, and I certainly wouldn't be surprised if they decided to just leave Molly's story at that. On the other hand, I think odds are just as good that we'll see more of her in Season 2. Like I said before, you don't usually go so far out of your way to keep a character from dying for no reason. If the writers wanted Molly dead, they could have easily shown her actually die like they did with everyone else. We didn't see her die, and her "death" didn't really have any major impact on the story, so it's not really cheating the players in any way to bring her back. If anything, I'd be a bit disappointed if we didn't see more of her in one way or another. As it is, her story feels a little incomplete.
