Unimportant Character Death Rant

I am thinking about characters that came into the serious that you never really got to know well. Three names come to mind.

1. Mark
Mark came into the story in episode two. He seemed like a really cool guy and I looked forward to having him play a role in the story, until he was eaten and died without me really even getting to know him. It's a shame and his death ended up meaning nothing, as we never really had a non-linear aquaintanceship. This is so much so that he was left out of ending character bios as there was nothing besides his death to tell of. Therefore his death really meant nothing to me and was nothing more than a placeholder to use in the St. John storyline.

2. Brie
Brie was quite an asshole in my opinion, but what a waste of a powerful character death. After the whole Crawford school sequence the only person whose fate is sealed is some woman you don't care for and barely know. I saved Ben even though I didn't like him, so that whole situation had no real effect on me. Not that I wanted a character death, but this is just what reminds me of the standard killing off a character from the expendable chopping block, even if I wanted her dead anyway.

3. Chuck
Chuck could have been a large role in the game. After losing Lilly, Carley/Doug, Katjaa, and Duck all in the same day, Chuck is the first guy you meet. He seemed like he will be a good group member and was the most badass hobo out there. Then he is killed off in a matter of hours in-game time. I was so shocked by the fact no one else cared. I even picked "Let's go find Chuck" every chance until I found him dead. Once again he was not mentioned in the after-screen. Chuck had so much potential and became a pointless charcter death because Telltale didn't want to implement him more. It was easier to kill him off, so they took the easy way out.

Overall these chopping block deaths, especially Chuck, really tick me off as a player, although to Telltale's defense, the game is fine with these deaths.

Anyone else agree, disagree, or have any thoughts about it?

Brie was "doomed by contest" - so she doesn't count.

I'm still a bit bugged about Doug and Carly as characters, saving either never really effected the plot outcome and made it feel like any potential they had to be useful (Doug as a tech guy could hot wire cars while Carly had a gun on her).

It would be pretty badass if you had the option to tell Clem to give Carley her ammo and save Doug yourself. Or atleast Lee not hesitate and derp around after giving Carley her ammo.

Chuck was the only unimportant death I cared about. I hated that he couldn't stick around longer.

Yeah, Chuck's upset me.

I liked Chuck.

Mark was cool, but he was technically a longstanding character (having appeared during the three month gap) - Though I get the feeling he was created just to be killed off.

Wish that Mark or Chuck could have been in the group longer. Mark was a friend, while Chuck had an interesting personality. He would've proved useful in Crawford!

But yeah, I hated Brie. I'm glad they let us chop her in the beginning of episode 5.

That's what I was thinking, Clem was just standing there waiting for you when she could've easily give Carley some ammo =.=

Mark was the main focus of Episode 2. I mean, he was the main course.

I liked Chuck, but hey "it's the Walking Dead" I mean, that's what I hear everytime I complain of a character's death.

I really would've liked to seen Mark last longer. Maybe they could've had Ben's friend survive and make it to the St. John's house then let him be supper. I hated Brie so I was glad to see her go and yeah I wish Chuck would've lasted a little longer

Does Lees death count. I felt like a failure as Lee who was saved far more by Clem, than I saved her. She even put's you down if you ask her. I don't think I would have been strong enough to kill Clem if she was bitten...not even if she asked. after saying I would shoot duck and then had to click to shoot (which I took 10 mins to do...had to have a cig lol) I couldn't have killed another kid I knew. my heart was already destroyed by then

Lots of people like Mark. Telltale should consider an inter-quel if they have the resources dealing with the Air Force Base. It'd probably help to flesh out Lilly too. The only problem is that any major decisions would have to be fairly self-contained since they don't get mentioned except for taking Mark along. Maybe they should see about getting a short Web-story or flash game.

I loved both Chuck and Mark and was so sad when they both died (In both horrible ways, I might add with mark'a legs chopped and eaten and Chuck being cornered and having to kill himself then later be disemboweled) To be honest I didn't really mind that Brie died, it seemed fitting to have at least one person to die (if you didn't let Ben fall)

I wasn't too upset about Mark's death. But Chuck's really got to me, he was a good character even though we only knew him for not even 2 full episodes. Amazing character.
