Thumbs down Episode 4: Hard Freeze

Episode 4 is continually hard freezing during the point where the Doctor is coming down the stairs and Lee is looking out the window. It either freezes while the stairs are visible or it freezes while the window is visible. It freezes every time after many attempts. I have tried turning off all the special FX, turning down the resolution, quitting all other programs, playing windowed and full screen, etc. I can't figure out any way to get past this part.

I notice that the screen glitches momentarily right before it freezes, so I think it's a memory corruption bug in TWD, not just a performance bottleneck.

I've waited about a week hoping to see a patch to download (I have the Steam version) but nothing has come out so far. Is TTG acknowledging this bug? Is there a plan to fix it?

This is the first TTG I have bought in a long time, and it's looking like it will be the last, too. Customer support is horrendous. The game is buggy as shit. And Steam doesn't offer refunds. That's a recipe for disappointed customers.

Default Same here

I'm having the same problem on my Macbook Pro, ordered through steam. I don't suppose you've found a solution?

Unfortunately we have not seen this issue reported before this thread or by anyone else. This appears to be a very rare issue. A small number of players reported a crash in another location, which for some was resolved by rewind 2 checkpoints and replaying to this scene. Alternatively, check the RAM for your system and your video card. You may be running low on memory when this scene tries to load. If you have not restarted your computer, please do so now.

Matt, over 50 people have stated this problem. Get off your ass.

No, I'm still stuck. I waited patiently for 6 weeks, hoping for a useful reply from TTG or -- better yet -- a patch to fix the game.

I just emailed to ask for a refund. I probably won't get it, but I need an audit trail showing that I asked for it so that I can charge it back on my Amex. I'm afraid I will get my Steam account suspended for charging it back, but this is what Steam deserves for selling and promoting an unplayably buggy game.

Matt, it takes you 3 weeks to answer, and the best you can muster up is that I have bad RAM chips? are you fucking serious?!

I've seen at least one other thread where the game freezes ON THIS EXACT SAME SCENE, not to mention a hundred threads with freezing in general.

I use this laptop a lot. It works fine. I have plenty of memory, and I have a decent video card. Can you provide any real technical support at all?

Lastly, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FUCKING REWIND CHECKPOINTS. There is no menu option for that. Jesus Christ. Should I break open the debugger and start fixing this myself?

I guess I'll have to wait another 3 weeks to get answer??? Are you working part time or what?

I don't know if i can help much here, but have you already tried verifying your game cache files?

Also in order to rewind:
In the games main menu click "Play".
On the next screen select a savegame, and click "Play".
On the top of the next screen select the Episode you want to play.
At the bottom you should see "Back - stats - rewind - play/continue"

If that doesn't help, please post your dxdiag info.

dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.
Windows 8: At the start screen, type in "dxdiag" and hit enter

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Open the file and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the contents, and paste them in a reply by pressing CTRL-V.
Sometimes the Forums spam filter catches long posts like this. Don't worry, we can still see them and make them visible.

Hi Guys,

Just to update this thread and help others stuck on this. I'm on mac and this was freezing right at this point for me too.

The way around it is to turn OFF fullscreen and run in windowed mode before loading the save. Then it will work

I registered here so others won't get stuck and can finish off this great game! It's really good and would be a shame to quit at this bit!

Thanks. They should hire you. You are the only person on this forum who can provide useful advice.

Unfortunately, verifying game cache files does not help my problem. It says my game cache files are fine.

Thanks. Now I realize why I never saw the "Rewind" button: it only shows up on episode 1. I can't rewind on any other episode...

I don't know why. When I click on Episode 4 and then click "Play", it takes me back to where I left off previously.

I have Mac OS, not Windows.
