Default The military showing up in Macon between episodes 1 and 3

Isn't that a bit weird?

Any theories about it?

Well there is a military base quite close to Macon (Robins Air Force Base or something?).

You're right, that's where they found Mark.

Yeah, like the helicopter pilot in the drugstore. I feel like that's something that should have been addressed with the characters talking about why and what happened and how they were overrun. How does a chopper get brought down by walkers? Pretty crazy.

My guess is that the pilot had been bitten previously while groundside, and passed out while in the air. Or it was flying too low and clipped some electric wires that still had juice flowing through them.

Lots of things can bring down a chopper, I always just thought the crash killed/fatally injured the pilot, and therefore causing him to turn. The group already knew that that point the bite isn't what turns you, and considering some of the dialog, this wasn't the first time they'd returned for supplies, I'm sure they spoke about it the first time they saw it, but at that time there was more pressing issues.

Well the News Chopper went down in the comic, think it was the News, and the military chopper went down in the show too.

Anything could ahve happened to the chopper. The pilot may have been previously bitten, or maybe he went to evacuate some wounded (bitten) soldiers, and one of them turned in flight, or perhaps it was even a mechanical failure. Choppers can be brought down by far more than an RPG round.

My guess would be that military was going to fight off the walkers. It's not just that the military base is near, Atlanta also had tons of abandoned military vehicles lying around.
And if you think they didn't know about it, explain the police cars and helicopters going to Atlanta in the start of the game.

I don't think there is anything weird about it. The military was trying to fight off the zombies during the early period of the apocalypse until it became impossible. most died. you can see this in the comic/tv series also (choppers and tanks with dead soldiers).

most military died by walkers but some died in other ways like simply crashing a chopper or by dehydration because they were surrounded and couldn't leave their vehicles.

The whole situation with the military just slipped by way too easily. We should've gotten more info on that and what really went down.

I don't find the military intervention on its own weird, but more the time span.

They suddenly came to Macon days after the outbreak when the town already was lost.

yeah, i thought it was kinda odd too. Lee's group left downtown macon and holed up in a inn near it. then in episode 3, you also see a jeep, which COULD account for ground forces being present at the time, even though the town was lost. so maybe the military was winning the fight, but supplies got too short. or someone in the "base" at macon got infected or died of something overtime or got crazy ( and a "crawford" ending ensued) and the military was split up or lost. my best guess.
