The reason Star Wars games became crap is because they just copied other games and threw the Star Wars logo on them. LucasArts turned into a company that made Star Wars versions of every other game in existence. They used to make really interesting original games (that had nothing to do with light sabers!) like Tie Fighter/X-Wing, Dark Forces, Rebel Assault was even fun. Rogue Squadron wasn't bad. Games like Galactic Battlegrounds copied Age of Empires (to the point of actually using the same engine and just changing all the graphics, decent game though it is), The Force Unleashed copied God of War and other QTE games in that vein. Republic Commandos reminds me of games like SWAT or something. There's just too much copying now. At least other developers that would develop a game in a genre, for the most part, added something unique to give it an identity. All LA did was take a genre and slap Star Wars, the Force, and light sabers on top of it.
I'd like to see a Star Wars RPG/FPS somewhat like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3/NV, or Rage where it's a large open world with stories, plots, factions, side quests.....but you're not a Jedi. You're like a bounty hunter or something that has nothing to do with the Jedi or the Sith or the Empire or the Republic. Like what Prey 2 was supposed to be before the delay (possible cancellation?). KOTOR and TOR don't count. I hate turn-based combat and I don't really like MMO's that much, I'm finding. Actually the whole third-person perspective is kind of grating on me lately.
Anyway, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, Telltale.
