He is young, so you can forgive him for being nervy and unsure of himself, but in the zombie apocalypse you need to grow up fast and even still he really should have known better. By about 16 years old and being 4 months into events you should really be savvy enough to realize the hatchet is in the door for a reason. Duck and Clem are about half his age.
Telltale put that decision in, because having widely blamed for episode 3's deaths and being pretty hated at time that was there way of saying "do you really hate him that much"
He was a better person than Larry though and Lilly as well since what he did was never fully on purpose (i don't think he consciously meant to leave Clem for example, it just happened) , 100% with you on that.

Oh yeah, you're right. I do remember Clem saying something like that. I must have confused it with something else, the St Johns or something.
Yes, he's older than Duck and Clem, but he's also at a very awkward time in life. His mind is still developing and is on the verge of becoming an adult. New mental abilities are still in the works. Compounding that with being in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, and he's going to be very flustered, which is what we got with him. Yes, the situation requires quick maturation, but his point in life doesn't work well with that, unlike Clem and Duck. They are at an age where they are very susceptible to new ideas and can adapt quickly, whereas Ben is at the age where he's trying to solidify himself, yet being forced to change. The world is just giving him mixed messages.
So that's where I'm coming from on Ben. If he were given a few more years, he would be just fine. As is, he's just a tragic character I wish I could support.
