If you manage to leave the city, a dog could be incredibly useful for alerting you of anyone or anything nearby.

As I said it could do the same in the city but might be more harmful than not in that case.

Okay, I didn't want to get involved, but your posts are all ridiculous. You're either simple in the head, or ten years old. Eating a dog is nowhere CLOSE to eating a person. I understand your point about it being hard on the kids, but it wouldn't affect their "mental health", unless they were ludicrously overly-emotional. If we told the military in a zombie apocalypse that we killed and ate a dog, apart from being a pointless thing to do because they have survival in mind and honestly wouldn't mind much if surviving meant eating a dog, if anything they would agree that it was the right thing to do.

The maker of the forum mentioned in passing how it may be necessary to eat the animals such as dogs or cats so you don't starve and die a painful death. He just wants to protect his family, Jesus Christ.

I have four dogs myself and I love them like family, and no, I would not put them down or eat them, but I understand why many people would.

I do not, however, understand your way of thinking.

I love my dogs more than I love life itself (Katjaa deja vu there O.o), but I wouldn't "put someone down with the walkers" for eating their dog.

At the very least i would force such people out of the group. Give them some food and guns, find a safe/secure area or help build one and leave them there. Learn how to farm and grow your own food like Hershel rather than killing a valuable and potentially life-saving asset to survival.

I have a Swiss shepeard which is similar to the German shepeard but hes is white dough.. he is a part of the family and i love him very much.. the only problem is that he barks at everything bcs he's protective and teritorial .. i rly wouldnt know what to do with him in the ZA.. probably will have to shoot him.. but i wouldnt have the guts to do it .. :/
