Default Sam & Max won't launch on Windows 8

Hi,

I have just upgraded to Windows 8 and installed Sam and Max season 1 episodes. For some reason they won't launch. Instead i get this message:

"This application is not compatible with the installed operating system or machine configuration.
Please upgrade to Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 or better. Certain virtual environments are not supported. See http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=os&c=1000 for further information."

Is there a way to solve this problem?

Which S&M S1 version is this?
TTG Download? Some CD (if so, where did you buy it)? ...?

I have been running S&M S1 E1 successfully on Win8 in the past. The TTG Download version that is.

It says in the error message that Virtual PC is suspected of being used. Is that the case?

Or did you install Hyper-V?
I 've found reports that Securom doesn't like it. If so, you can try uninstalling it as described here.

I don't have Hyper-v installed.

Also, I posted one mistake in the question. My windows is not upgraded, it's a new windows 8 on a new computer, 64 bit. Maybe it has anything to do with that?

Hmm. Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode (for Win XP or 7) yet?

I have the exact same problem as the original poster. and decided to reopen this post as OP never revealed if it worked for him/her
Hyper V is not enabled on my windows 8 64bit.
I have tried running in compatibility mode for both win 7 and XP, but no change, same error message.

this is the TTGdownload version.
I tried re-downloading and re-installing, but nothing works..

I don't know any workaround yet, or any good idea what else to try.
Have you tried contacting SecuROM support as described in the error message?

I'm having the same problem. Any chance of it being uploaded sans-securom? The game is on GOG so I assume this is already available.
