Smile Save game issues... pls pls help i love this story and need to know the endding!!!

over a 2 day period i finished the first 3 episodes and was hald way through the 4th when i finally had to go to bed (i really didnt wanna dammit i must know the ending i think i actually love clemintine ffs).

So today i go into steam and load the game up hit start and the only game available is all the way back at episode 1 i was like wtf noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

anyway after some digging around i ended up here C:\Users\Tom\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead... it seems that in this folder it has all my saves (a total of 38) for the 2 days i was playing (in fact save 38 the final one has a date stamp that is the exact time i stopped playing the other night).

Soooooooo im wondering why steam wont register these saves and how can i restore them.

please please please will somebody help me... i am absolutly hooked on this amazing story line... i genuinly care about the choices i have made and really wanna see how my decisions effect the final outcome. If anyone can help me i would be forvever greatful.

Cheers guys

Can you please do a search on your computer for prefs.prop and let me know if there is more than 1 copy of this file? There should only be 1 in your save directory (which you specified above). If you find another in a GameData folder or in your Walking Dead installation directory (steamapps\common\the walking dead), this may be the problem.

Also, can you please answer a few questions? When did you first install the game? Were you prompted for or did you automatically receive any updates when you started Steam? Are you logged into the administrator account on your PC? Do you have Cloudsync enabled? If so, did you receive any error messages from Cloudsync when you started Steam or the game?

Well I've got the problem too...so I can answer.

After episode 3, I downloaded episode 4 and started the game up...but I only have 3 blank spots for "New Story"...it's been that way since.

I only have one prefs.prop.
The game was first installed when it was released and has been updated the standard way through steam since then. Nothing special.
I've received just the standard steam updates during this time.
I'm logged as the admin (and only user on this PC).
Cloudsync is enabled.
Never had a Cloudsync error.

I've attached my support_data_pc.

I've tried redownloading and installing multiple times...doesn't work.

I do still have my original save game directory from TWD folder in My Documents backed up in a separate location...I did this when I first noticed the problem so that I would always have the backup. Is there anyway to send this to you guys so that a savegame that works can be created?
Attached Files
File Type: zip support_data_pc.zip (13.4 KB, 0 views)

Looking at the file size I fear your prefs.prop got corrupted and lost the association with the savegames and decision data.

You can try if you can restore it using the "restore previous version" feature (right click, "properties", "restore previous version") on that prefs.prop.

P1: WalkingDead101.exe

P2: 2013.1.28.20592

P3: 5106da1f

P4: DINPUT8.dll
Your dxdiag shows some crashes, which are common on Windows 8 with gamepads/joysticks connected. They can be the cause of prefs.prop corruption, if they also happened just before you lost your savegames.

If the restore feature doesn't work, you can zip and upload your backed up prefs.prop and .save files and post a link in a reply. I can check if i can recover some of your progress.

Thanks for the reply and willingness to help. I tried to use the 'restore previous version'...it didn't work.

As to the gamepad...I guess it's conceivable that that could have been the problem. I never knew that I couldn't have my 360 controller plugged into my machine when trying to launch TWD until I did it. Honestly, I'm not sure if that's when the problem originated...but I guess it could have been...

Below you'll find a link to my save files as requested. I would be immensely grateful if you could recover as much of my game as possible. Thanks in advance.

I recovered the latest (by date) Episode 3 save, using a workaround.
Please check if your decisions look normal.
