The Secret of NIMH, An American Tail, and Anastasia in particular are excellent.
I'm a fan on Bluth's films, but not of the idiocy that stood on his shoulders, such as the An American Tail sequels, the Secret of NIMH sequel that didn't acknowledge Mrs. Brisby's bravery, made Timmy out to be some kind of rodent messiah, and made Martin the villain, every single one of the Land Before Time sequels(the second was the only half-way decent one and even then, that's when it started turning into a musical), and all the other sequels to Don Bluth's work. He had nothing to do with any of them, and neither did Spielberg.

I love his classics. An American Tail, Secret of NIMH, The Land Before Time, All Dogs Go to Heaven. Anastasia was pretty good, too. Titan, A.E.? I liked it, but at the same time, I didn't. It didn't, to me, have the same charm of his earlier works, and I think that's because of the abundance of CG animation. Why does everyone seem to forget you can create spaceships and exciting space vistas with penstrokes and paint? Rock-a-Doodle was okay, I guess. Can't say much about Thumbelina, Troll in Central Park, or Pebble and the Penguin, never watched them because they never interested me. And while I enjoyed We're Back! when I first saw it as a kid, nowadays it seems very weak compared to The Land Before Time as far as dinosaur stories go.

But the thing about his earlier movies is that, while they can be seen as kids films, they have enough to bring in older audiences as well, while the SEQUELS to them are completely geared towards children. To this day I can watch The Land Before Time or The Secret of NIMH and enjoy them thoroughly.

Dude, you can't talk about the villain of NiMH 2! You'll ruin the surprise!

Seriously, it's like one of the Nostalgia Critic's best reviews.

I like the original NIMH sequel idea where Timmy would've been the villain and Martin the warrior and hero.

Yeah....Martin the Warrior....

Wait....

Oh.

Oh....

Ohhhhh.......

I need to read that book again. Thinking through all the Brian Jacques books, I think that one is probably my favorite because he didn't pull any punches with it. You knew Martin was going to make it, but he made it very clear that any other character was fair game (moreso, because you already started out knowing that Martin came to Mossflower alone). And it was brilliant.

Bluth has always bitterly complained that Titan A.E. was interfered with by the studio.

I've determined that my favorite movies are, hands down, the original Original Star Wars Trilogy.

Other movies come and go from capturing my interest for significant lengths of time, but when it comes right down to it, five years from now (and more), the Star Wars OOT will still be at the top of my list of favorite movies.

[EDIT:] When I say "original Original Star Wars Trilogy" I mean the Original Trilogy before the SE's. Adywan's Revisited project can also be included as a favorite, because it removes the SE's added annoyances. For the record, I refuse--REFUSE to watch the Blurays. If anyone bought them for me, I would return them unwatched.[/EDIT]

Ever since I heard about the existence of fan edits, I have been somewhat fixated on: the original theatrical version of the OT in HD (Harmy), the SE's as they should have been (Adywan), and a cohesive PT set that makes the story good, the characters likeable, and fits with the feel of the OT (Q2).

Thanks, Darth Marsden for telling me about Adywan. Seriously.

EDIT AGAIN: I was looking back at that thread I linked to, and Rather Dashing mentioned looking for a good version of the original theatrical version of the Original Trilogy. I can't believe I recommended the GOUT (Disc 2 of the 2006 OT DVDs).

For anyone who cares, a guy called Harmy did a fantastic job bringing the OT into HD by using elements from various different sources (including the Blurays) and fixing/color-correcting them. If it's in the original version of the film, Harmy included it--even the continuity errors (like R2's dome panels being black in space).

They're available via torrent from Myspleen. (fyi: You should own an official copy of the movie before obtaining a fanedit. That way it's not technically piracy because no profits are then lost by the copyright holders.)

I’m getting tired of waiting for an adaptation of Stephen King’s Cell.
