There is usually an upgrade option that makes it even out to having just bought the whole series. After having seen Telltale's work I don't even question anymore if I think it has potential. It's basically, where do I sign?

Oddly enough the only series that doesn't have this option is Wallace and Gromit.

Because the season price is still the price for 4 single episodes. No upgrade needed.

You need to check your math, 4 episodes at $8.95 each is $35.80. That is greater (although not much more) than $34.95.

But, if I already own one episode, and will buy the rest, the price is some cents higher, but I won't get the collector's disc?

To qualify for the collector's disc you just need all 4 episodes on your account, it doesn't matter when you buy them or if you buy them in a package deal or not.

but, if you didn't buy the season as a whole it might happen that you won't receive the option for getting the free dvd. in that case you need to wait until the dvd is released and then write to support to issue you a "free dvd"-code manually...or something like that.

i believe, that an update option is planned. they just couldn't do it until now, because monkey island kept them busy.
i didn't want to wait for it, so i bought the first three episodes individually. i don't mind giving an extra dollar to telltale..since they will probably put it to good use.
