Default Would you like Lucasarts to update the graphics for Monkey Island 2 SE?

I'd like to see the people's opinion.
Oh, and flamethrowers are disabled...

Only if they hire someone with actuall skill like Steve Purcell or Bill Tiller. I'd hate to see another loved game rushed by some strangers in Singapore just because LucasArts are too lazy and cheap to hire some real talant.

I really like the look of the SE. The backgrounds look really sharp and nice, and yet I think they are very close to the originals. OK, the animations are not what you'd expect of a new game, but that was OK to me...

And I LOVE the new music with the live band! And the voice acting with Dominic & Co!

So definitely, bring up more SEs!

They should update it all but have an option to turn on new music and voice in the old version.

I bought MI3 with MI1 and MI2. I was a kid and I will say this as part of the new generation who Lucas aim to sell to. I couldn't stand MI2. Their was so much going on. At the time it was beautiful but to a younger generation. It gave me headaches. In the end I looked up a guide so I could just see how the story went. And if you don't want the updated isn't that the point of switching with a button?

But they should have an option for voice and music in pixel version.

I voted just sound, but only on the basis that I don't like Guybrush's hair in SMI:SE. If they fix that, then go for it...

Again with the hair. Why do you guys make it such a big deal? So what? What if I said Guybrush's nose was way too long and big? It's nothing like the originals and he looks like a doofus. It was the same issue then, you know. Luckily, people got over it. Hopefully, we'll all get over the "hair" now as well.

I think Yahtzee said it best: "Fans are clinging complaining dip****s who will never ever be grateful for any concession you make. The sooner you tune out their shrill tremulous voices the happier you'll be for it."

Definitely agreeing with MusicallyInspired.

My favorite part is that Guybrush changes EVERY GAME and the same "old fans" can't adapt to minor cosmetic changes.

Wow... No offense, but... Just because of the hair? Well, I found that they did a rather sloppy job with MI:SE, and yes, the character design could have been better, but I don't think that voting for "just sound" only because you don't like Guybrush's hair is all that reasonable...

I wonder when (and if) "hair mods" or "new sound old game" mods'll come out.

As a new fan I want them to redo them all. I understand why some old school fans wouldn't like this. It's a bit like a band you love re recording a classic album. The upside is great though, the more new fans like me that dig it, the more new Monkey Island games you get. I think what you guys have done is great, you've kept it alive. That's not an easy thing to do, especially in a genra like adventure games that most modern gamers have never even tried. Good job. It's a bit like the Firefly fans getting Serenity made, but this seems more succesful.

Hair mod. You just made my frickin day, Pariah... Not like it definately won't happen, though. But I have to say, considering the style they tried to nail, the hair isn't that bad of a choice...
Cole - You know what? I've warmed up to the idea of MI2SE, because my fears of them ruining MI2 aren't that strong as they were. I mean, I think they realise that what they did with SMI:SE won't work very well with MI2. I think you understand, having the notion that one of your most prized memories would be recreated in a way you wouldn't like... While I still feel that the game was hurried, I don't think that Lucasarts would ruin what is arguably one of their most iconic games ever.
So yeah, I'm kind of indecisive... Should they re release it? Re-release it with sound? Overhaul?
Hmmmm....

See that's why I chose the last option because music and sound is something that sounds a lot better with live players than the original sound. You should also give it a try to listen music in MI2 with MIDI and compare with the Soundblaster or even PC-Sound in DOSBOX (there's the original sound, not in ScummVM), then you'll hear many differences like in the Bloody Lip.

I don't think that for example a gothic band should start to wear cowboy costumes (if they didn't already).

Why vote just sound, what would be good is a SE but with the option for sound in the old version, that way you have the original, the original with new sound and the SE. Why vote for just sound when you could have an option to get that plus the SE?

I voted no, because I can totally see them messing up the HD.

Haha yeah, no it's not particularly reasonable. I'm just picky about hair but I actually did like the rest of the Special Edition graphics and art - some of those backgrounds were amazing and I actually wouldn't mind a totally revamped MI2.

The hair thing isn't so much the drawings as the style... I just don't like it much. But I should add (for the benefit of a couple of you who I think took my earlier comment a little bit too seriously) that that's my opinion, and I don't want or expect it to be tweaked to suit my particular idea of what Guybrush's hair should look like....

If I had my way, he'd have a mohawk.

can I be taken off the list of unreasonable demand-makers now?

Yes, definitely.

If they hired some new character designers and animators I'd preorder today (well, probably even if they didn't )

Actually, the PC-Speaker and IBM PCjr/Tandy 3-Voice is in ScummVM. You just have to select it in the audio dropdown menu. The only thing is MI2 doesn't have PC-Speaker or IBM PCjr sound. Only Adlib/Sound Blaster and MT-32. So you're wrong on both counts.
