I loved Myst. Loved the atmosphere, the fact that you didn't have an enormous inventory of things to try to use on everything you saw. I loved the puzzles that required a bit more thinking (except that darn tunnel tram thingie that directed you by sound cues, took me ages to figure that out). Overall I thought it was a great departure from adventure gaming of the day and well worth the praise.

It's a fun little game. A bit too easy. The technology wasn't quite there yet. I prefer Riven (the sequel) which is awesome. Myst III & IV are good too, but they sort of lost me with the final installment (End of Ages). I never got into that spin-off series (Uru), was it any good?

I really think it was okay. The feel is different then in myst but it is still well worth playing through once.

I played them all back to back last year - no walkthroughs, just brutal note-taking and trial and error.
The first game was kinda dull, but after that the rest of them were fantastic. They contain some of the most immersive and detailed worlds I've seen in any game series, and I love challenging puzzles.

Myst is a love or hate kind of thing. I think it had more impact back when the CD-Rom thing was new, but what really made it appealing was that it was the sort of game that was incredibly involved but anyone could play, even non-gamers.

Sure, it was lacking in characters and it had more backstory than actual narrative, but it's not hard to see why it took off like it did.
