If you reveal something, you ruin the mystery of it. I like not knowing how exactly the eighth Doctor regenerated into the Ninth. I like to imagine it as a final sacrifice - he destroyed both the Daleks and the Time Lords, himself included, to end the Time War.

If you're referring to the original series, then fair enough, it could be seen as both cheap and tacky at times. Perfectly enjoyable if you're in the right mindset though.
If you meant the new series, then seriously, get out. New-Who is anything but cheap - it costs around a million pounds an episode. As for tacky... well, that's open to interpretation, but I wouldn't call it that either. At times it deals with some very adult themes in an extremely mature way, mostly by way of one Steven Moffat. Seriously, Blink was one of the best 45 minutes of television in 2008.
If you don't like Doctor Who, then I'd really like to know why. Not so I can tell you you're wrong (honest!) , but so I can try to see things from your point of view. Just dismissing it as 'not as good as American shows' is petty and just plain wrong. It's better then a fair few shows made across the pond.
