Well, those poxed pirates won't give up until they get what they want.
Or maybe it just has to look like what they want.
Something cast inside the mould left lying at the base of the cliff.
It would have to be made of a golden-looking metal.
Such as Pyrite, of which you have some, from the last game.
It would have to be molten to cast it.
On an ancient barbecue grill, for example.

I have that barbecue working and thought about a substitute using the mould. Poor little pyrite parrot! I don't want him to die! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!

Edit: many thanks for your help!

I can't move quickly enough. Does that mean I have to move/pick up (the active part of) the source or destination?

Neither. You have to find a shorter route.
One that does not lead all the way around the cliff.
But one that leads to a point from where you can see the mould and use the pyrite.
Such as the cliff top from where you dropped.

But using the Jungle Entrance as a shortcut doesn't work (just tried it)

Thanks, man. @Telltale: how does Guybrush know he'll be accurate enough? He'd only have had one shot at it. I have a feeling it won't only be me that overlooks this solution.

Thanks for your help too. Hopefully others will find this useful.

This one stumped me for a while. It is one of two things in the game I found annoying. The other one involved how much I had to distract two pirates -- that part was so hard I was certain I was doing it wrong.

I loved that Part.

First i thought i had to keep it warm somehow, move the template or the grill or make a totally independent template out of wet sand or something.
Then I realized that i could walk for exactly 4 screen changes until it got cold. Looking for a shorter route i even thought about the "Path of the Mouth" for a while, until i realized how to solve it.
That's the kind of puzzle i like. Not too obvious and still making sense.

About "only one shot". If he had missed he could have molten it again, except if it landed somewhere out of reach of course.

I thought it was rather pointless that you had to toss it off the cliff, kind of an illogical solution, too.

Pretty monkey islandish. After two times not making it till the turtle altar, I went on the cliff, looked down, Guybrush said that he sees the turtle and it snapped in my head - THAT'S IT!

I don't find it illogical, since I figured it out right away :P (Maybe my reasonning is illogical too, of course).

It's absolutely illogical.
It shouldn't matter how many 'screens' it takes; if the pyrite is hard by the time you reach the cliff base, it should be hard by the time you reach the peak.
Not to mention that if you drop the almost-cooled pyrite over the cliff, the wind should finish it off before it lands.

And if it did manage to land as a liquid, it should have splashed out, and left lots of little blobs of the stuff lying around the altar.

Don't get me started on the melting point of the stuff. (It's 1193°C (2179°F), FYI. I tried to work out how long it would take to cool, and how hot the barbecue would need to be for it to work, but it's unclear how long it would take Guybrush to get to the cli-AAAAGH STOP ME. I'M THINKING ABOUT IT TOO MUCH.)

It's unrealistic, but not illogical. And yes, it can take less time to get up the cliff than all around it. just like it takes less time to cross a bridge than go all around a lake, even if you end up at the same spot in the end.

I actually did what you were supposed to do there, then I got caught. So I abandoned that trail of thought until I desperately needed help with it. Maybe I had to get them to stare at each other first. I dunno.

Besides, they missed out the last 'r' in 'treasure' in Guybrush's written dialog, I think. Then 'burry' haha.
