I've loved Team ICO for a very, very long time, even before Shadow of the Colossus became such a popular game. (I still prefer Ico, though.)
I can't tell you which is the better game, because it's a lot like comparing, I don't know, Spirited Away with The Big Lebowski. But then again, the quality of the game doesn't matter, since this is the best
hero - but really, can you compare Chehiro with The Dude?
Apart from the unflattering description Guybrush got pasted with (and I've seen people vote for Wander based on that), Guybrush isn't as well-known as The Wanderer. Most people who'd vote for him have no idea who Guybrush is.
Frankly, the whole thing is really, really stupid, and Gamespot should know better. It's bad enough that flimsy excuses for character like Sephiroth win so very often. I wouldn't take Guybrush losing as a major point, or as any sort of indication other than a reaffirmation as to why Gamespot is one big joke.
I also wanted to add that the Monkey games were pretty revolutionary during their time, and that there's a reason they hold-up so well today (I interviewed
a pair of ten year old girls on the subject a while back). Even the newer ones are revolutionary in their own little way, as they do what no-one in gaming has managed to before: tell an excellent story in monthly installments, while somehow keeping it fun and interesting. (In chapters; Sam and Max's episodes hold-up pretty well on their own, as do Strong Bad's, etc).
Again, I love Shadow of the Colossus, I love Ico, and I've played through each game several times and studied them. I know the Colossi's names by heart. But comparing them is really, really silly, and you're just better off thinking of each game on its own.
