I have to say... finished Uncharted this morning, and just played an hour of Brutal Legend.
I love them both, but Uncharted really has pushed the envelope. I am not saying either game is a let down. It is just that Uncharted 2 really has pushed the PS3 very far, and a multiplatform game like Brutal Legend is never going to have the same oomph factor.
I think Tim Schafer is a master story teller (I hhave a Grim Fandango tattoo so he'd better be!), gameplay wise though... not so sure. I loved his LucasArts work, but then again the controls were always simple. Brutal Legend works well, but Eddie is no Natan Drake. Felt wierd playing just after Uncharted 2 and not having a jump button|!
On the other hand, Naughty Dog are not as original story wise, although then again you could argue they are going for the type of story that emulates a Hollywood production, low on realism and big on explosions, so maybe they never intended to blow us all away with their narrative. Character wise, they succeeded however, as I really think Nathan Drake is awesome
