Spoilers! Elaine and Guybrush kissing? Chapter 5

Warning: this may contain spoilers!

I was just wondering why we never see Elaine and Guybrush kiss? I mean, if my lover was to return from the dead and I thought I would never see him/her again, than a big kiss is the first thing to do! Same thing with chapter 2 etc.

Does Telltale think we are 5 years old or something? Or do they want to avoid the "juicy" romantic thing in the whole narrative?

It kinda made me miss something in the whole ending on the boat at the end of chapter 5... I was just a simple hug and that was it!

Do people share my thoughts or am I just making too much fuzz about this?

Me too.
I believe that the ending sequence it's a bit rush.... like the CMI ending.
That's a pity, because it don't satisfy you.
No kiss, a short hug and suddenly the credits. All too quick. And more questions to answer than joyful moments.
I hope in a newer version with a slightly longer ending... it will be ok also with only a longer hug. But I know it will never happen.

I don't think you're making a fuzz. ;-)

There have been a couple of people in here mentioning this and I guess we all think it's kind a strange that we've never seen them kiss before.

I don't think a simple kiss would spoil the 5-year-old-players of this game, after all, Anemone also kisses Guybrush briefly in Siege, so my guess is it's either the lack of time for animation, or, as you suggested, trying to not let the romance become too "juicy".

Or Elaine simply avoids kissing Guybrush too often because he becomes aroused too quickly.

We already know that Guybrush can handle Elaine in Fishnets, ...and Elaine tied up, ...Telltale have actually put a more vivid image of their sex life into our minds through comments! I'm sure a little kiss isn't going to ruin things, haha.

I think it's more because kissing isn't really considered piratey, and having actual on-screen sex (which is very piratey) really would be a bad idea.

Yeah, I think they are ready for that kiss now. But mind you: Guybrush says that _sometimes_ and only on his birthday Elaine would wear fishnets. That's rarer than rare if you ask me.

while they couldn't do sex... i'd love them to do one of those sexual misunderstanding jokes... you know like in three's company where mr furley walks into the apartment and overhears jack and chrissy hanging a shower curtain saying things such as "you're folding it the wrong way" and "it wont reach" and junk like that... or even something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaCMIzArTo4 between guybrush and morgan xDDD

Elaine's kinda avoided PDA since the beginning, and I assume that's a pretty big factor.

I think you're all wrong, and it's actually because it's quite hard to have 3d models interact so intimately without it looking immensely stupid!

It can't be that difficult for those talented people working at TTG...

Yeah, but to fit into their busy schedules as they're on a monthly-update one. They would have to manipulate the lips etc. and make the faces much more life-like just for that one cutscene that had a kiss in, because otherwise it would be like pressing two manikin's faces at each other and it'd highlight the flaws in the graphics for those who had been criticizing it.

She's avoided Personal Digital Assistants?

Close one character's eyes, move their heads towards each other, change the shot to a wide one behind one of the characters, tilt the front character's head sideways. Add kissy sound. The power of suggestion!

Yeah, not too difficult to use camera angles and perspective, there's no real necessity to use a gratuitous close-up side shot. Nightmare Before Christmas used this technique, because as you can imagine, showing a skeleton and ragdoll with a stitched mouth who were both actual figurines kissing might have been a hard thing to do. :|

But anyway, I just think they didn't show anything because it's never been shown in the other games and maybe they wanted to keep tradition alive? I just doubt it has to do with the animation.

My two pieces o' eight:
It's all the animation needed and time. Why use valuable time and resources in such small things? Tales is far from perfect, and falling into this kind of fan service stuff is a disservice to all of us because TT should be working on really important things (like bug fixes, improvements, better puzzles, etc.)

About the kiss: if the story or a puzzle really needs this, then go for it. Otherwise we'll probably end with fan-service scenes and sooner or later with (interactive) scenes like that on Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy (I won't give more details since this site is not "R" or "NC") that contributes little to nothing to the game.

And another thing:
In previous games sans EfMI (I never finished EfMI) there was no need to show "the kiss". Sometimes leaving things to imagination is better than the actual thing.

I wanted to see Morgan throw rocks at Noogie's head. And to be honest, I want to see Elaine and Guybrush share a passionate embrace at least once, at some point. I'm generally wary of romance in adventure stories since they often drag the momentum down (and because I have the emotional maturity of a 12 year old from the 1870's), but I've got a soft spot for married couples who are also lovers. To show that even ten years down the road there's still some passion left, that's the kind of romance I like to see.

I guess it's mainly because they think it'd ruin the atmosphere or would be too juicy. Though I'd think a kiss wouldn't hurt, especially in the last scene of CMI, I would've loved to see them kiss. And in the very end of Chapter 5, I would've preferred a kiss scene over the "Esponja" line, though that was kinda amusing.

They probably want to leave it all to our imagination (and create vivid images by certain comments, as mentioned above... ).

That's exactly the point: From the exchanged dialogue between Guybrush and Elaine we can deduct that after the approx. decade they are married, they're still lovers who fight and care for each other as if they still had to win each others heart. This is shown in a convincing way (I think) without having the effect of being too sappy. There are many ways to show (or almost show) a couple kissing on screen. There's even more suspense to a "semi visible" kissing scene like Bas suggested.

I'd complained about this too, although I have been able to see since then how much they've done to give us a picture of how it is between them... One of the most vivid things comes from EMI. He makes it pretty clear that the honeymoon was immensely satisfactory and even suggests that if she's considered dead anyway they could go right back to it...

One of my favorite bits at the moment is when pox-mad Elaine storms into the courtroom and grabs him in the 3-D version of a very personal kind of snuggle all while calling him "my bonnie lass!" I've been giggling about that for a couple of days now, especially the line, "Step into me captain's quarters and let me ravish ya silly!" If she hadn't smelled... whatever it was of Morgan's that she smelled, it would have been contempt of court in a minute there.

By the way, now that I think about it, well, that's an... um... interesting reaction to the pox. I think LeChuck just got a little more icky...
