It's like an "Choose your Adventure Book" on Steroids. And HD.

I totally Enjoyed this game, i thought the story was very gripping and the visuals were breathtaking, its like watching a cinematic movie. i pre-ordered the collectors edition from HMV, and i got it a day early in the UK, it felt like christmas when it came through the post, soon as the post came, i ran downstairs and took it back up to play the game, i actually completed it in that whole day, what can i say the story was so gripping i couldnt put it down...i was tempted to play the bonus extra episode i got with the collectors, but i thought id play it another day,but the best thing about the game it has plenty of replay value, now ill play it again and make different decisons, and see how the story goes, when i told me friend about the game he said "stop trying to sell me the game,im gunna get it anyway", but i laughed and said i dont need to this game sells itself

Yeah I got the Collector's Edition from HMV too. Annoyed that the soundtrack was delayed, I went and inputed my code before I saw the warning. I guess it was fortunate that HMV sent out codes to everyone.

I got the platinum trophy for Heavy Rain yesterday. Really enjoyed playing it, epic game.

Sure, but that wouldn't move the story forward.

It's not like there isn't a pre-written story to the game. It has a little wiggle-room here and there, a few branched paths, and several combinations of endings for the different characters (of which not all might make it to the end). But still, you are playing that storyline.

Well apparently Heavy Rain sold 500, 000 in it's first week and is sold out in many countries. This game could really put the focus back on storytelling in video games. I hope Telltale is watching!

Because TTG doesn't focuses on story?

I suppose it would be a little more helpful (for them and me) if you told what TTG should learn from Heavy Rain.

No I was thinking if Heavy Rain which is born out of adventure games can be that commercially successful it could pave the way for Telltale to do the same. Play the game if you want to know what can be learnt! I think the dialogue options where you have a single word around their heads and you choose one to direct the conversations was really well implemented.

I think Heavy Rain’s interface is meant to work with this game. And it works very well, BUT ! Telltale have its own style, and I don’t see why they should change. I’d prefer to have a verb coin, attitude shift, or at least to be able to look at objects before using them, instead of having Heavy Rain like mapped interfaces.

I get that they were trying to create a sense of momentum and inertia with the character controls... But there was one part where I was being chased by the police, and I was running through stopped traffic. I had gotten a pretty good lead, and just needed to duck between two cars to make my escape. Rather than head between the cars, though, my character just walked back and forth, doing 180s four or five times until I was caught.

Really, video game?

Interesting.. when I got to that part, I could go straight though between 2 cars and I thought no I will go to the left around a car to escape..and I had the same experience and got caught

Completed Heavy Rain today. It didn't quite reach my expectations as I had set them pretty damn high, but it's an excellent game in my opinion. I would've wished a bit more from the story. It was decent, but could've definitely been better. I was also a bit disappointed how most of the points where you were actually able to alter the storyline a lot were action scenes. I would've liked to have more ways to alter the storyline without action sequences and instead with dialogue choices and moral dilemmas. Another problem was that not knowing what some action icon was for might've made you do actions you never intended to. And that when you activated a trigger event you couldn't do some other actions you would've wanted to do right after as the scene ended from the trigger.

Hopefully there will be more games like this in the future. I can't get my hands on similar games with better written stories. This was an excellent start for a new kind of gaming, I just hope it won't end up being a one-off, as there is room for improvement left.

I would strongly recommend Heavy Rain just to understand what this whole buzz is about. Also, I don't really get some of the overly negative comments about this game, especially on AdventureGamers.com. The production values are great and there's an interesting story, and you can actually affect the outcome of the story in fundamental ways. There are a lot of places where you do have to think a bit about what to do next. It's not like the game insults anyone's intelligence.

It's too bad that it is a bit taxing to do another playthrough just to see how different choices affect the outcome. The story wasn't quite interesting enough for me to jump right back at it. But I'm sure I'll play it again sometime with a different approach, granting my main characters slightly different personalities.

I think the overly negative comments on adventure gamers are mostly by people who have never played the game. Did all your characters survive?

I loved Heavy Rain! Except for ToMI, there are really very few games that made me feel sorry/happy for the characters.

SPOILER
When he cuts off his finger... that totally broke my heart, hearing a grown man cry... my God, that was so intense, I really felt bad about making him do it for 3-4 days...

I will wait for it to be in the bargain bin... because I know I will not play it more then a few times. Plus Quick time events make me want to punch things.

Look out, reviving a thread here!

Just played through this (in one sitting and all, first time for everything I guess) and I really enjoyed it. But one thing really puzzled me (here come big big spoilers)

How the hell is Scott Shelby like 80 pounds lighter whenever you fight him in the nightclub managers office? I mean Shelby's a big dude, the guy in the office was pretty slender

Also, Ethan's ex-wife goes to the police saying "he came in in the middle of the night 3 months ago soaking wet and talking about drowning" but they don't live together any more. Also all the origami he keeps fiddling about with in the earlier parts of the game. I dunno maybe he convinced himself he was the killer.

Also I would've had a perfect ending except I lost the FBI dude to a quick time event with Shelby and he had to eat shitwaffles, though I managed to egt everyone to the crime scene despite cocking up the driving the wrong way on the motorway trial
