Honestly 5 gave me nostalgia at the start, that hill, that dog, the guy in the boat, suddenly, weird as it sounds, I thought - hey what's this, I feel like i am playing Mi2/3 again? The next few steps were also good BUT then it faded and I was let down. I started to dream of CMI, when you arrive in that house with those rooms and tough puzzles. The thing missing for me which I had in LCR and CMI - so much space, exploration, so many options. You could go to one zone and work on something then go to totally another zone and see if you could work on something - it's how I felt when I first played WoW - a swear word here but I had the feeling I was travelling and had options, areas to work on.
Ep V in the end turned out like the rest, very linear and tiring. I just couldn't be bothered to go do all those bar repeat quests. Same for the court case in previous, that was really boring. I know it's episodic and limited on what can be delivered per episode and whilst I kinda enjoyed it, I am amazed no one is really taking TTG to claims on their puzzles and itemisation. It's shocking. Could be so much better. The whole cool thing in MI1, 2, 3 was the vast amount of items and how they might interact. Did we get that with TMI? Hell no.
I loved to see Monkey Island back and it was kinda fun but it was like being an original Star Wars fan and *accepting* the prequels - better than nothing but childhood firmly raped. Based on reception I think they will continue as they have done in this season with TMI2. An average of 8/10 means they don't have to change their take on the series. I will probably buy the next season but I hope it's better. Surely with the amount of sales there will be room for improvement. Yes new Sam N Max is kinda fun I guess but let's not rest on laurels. I tried Sam N Max TTG after loving original and it suffered some same symptoms for me as TMI - kinda fun but not nearly as good.
TTG you can do better. Hoping to see it. A fan? Yes but with reservations.
