Red face TOMI 2 crashes before title-screen

Hi mateys,

got a problem with TOMI 2. right before the title screen is supposed to show up, my pc crashes and i have to reboot. I already tried switching the prefs.prop (even with ttres patcher).
I guess i could play the game if someone could upload a prefs with 800x600, window mode and quality 1 (i found a download in a thread somewhere, but the file had already been deleted).

sry for grammar or spelling mistakes :>

edit1: oh, and i could play the first episode without any problems. i tried to start the 3rd episode, but it has the same problem like the 2nd episode.

I attached a prefs file.

Does the first episode still work?
Is your Display color depth set to 32 bit?

Please also upload a dxdiag log.

dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Then zip the file and attach it to a reply in this Thread.

yes, the first episode works just fine, from beginning to end.
my display is set to 32-bit.

I tried to switch the prefs, but the launcher automatically sets it back to default :/ i even tried to switch the prefs right after the launcher, but still doesn't work.

i attached the zipped dxdiag-info.

update . i double-checked the prefs-switching method. when i switch them right after the launcher and before the game starts, it actually uses the new prefs. But the problem still remains, right before you can see the title-screen i get a blue screen ('cause i turned off automatic reboot) with a bunch of text that isn't helpfull at all.
Is there maybe a way where i can skip the titlescreen and just jump right into the game? i don't care if i can't save/load or change options, as long i can play at all ;P

Try installing the latest Realtek AC97 Driver. That old driver is very likely to cause the crash.

There's also a later Graphics driver for you.

allright, so i updated both drivers but i still get the Blueescreen of Death, to be more precise i get the following errormessage :

Can you upload a new dxdiag?

Also try a clean boot:

Booting clean in Windows XP:
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart
8. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.

After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click OK
4. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer

Based on Will's post

sure, attached another dxdiag.

clean booting also doesn't help, same problem like before.

i checked the errormessage in google, and it looks like it could be an virus/trojan ('cause some other games don't want to run either, like need for speed most wanted).
Or - my system is too old and fragile =/

Any other ideas?

A new USB device appears in the new dxdiag and it is set as default for sound playback.
Try unplugging it as well as all other non-essential usb devices and setting your onboard sound as default.

It is also a good idea to check your Memory for errors:
Testing your memory:
In order to test your memory download http://www.memtest.org/ and make a bootable cd or disk. Start your system from that medium to run the memory test.

It is probably enough to run it for one pass. Look at the lower table that looks like this after one pass is finished:

Code:
Test Pass Errors
---- ---- ------
Std 1 0
If there are errors they are shown in red as in this example:
