That's actually a pretty good idea!

I own Portal already (the Orange Box even), but does owning just Portal allow you to play Source Mods as well? If it does, it opens up a lot of opportunities to a lot of people.

Yes, I believe it does. Owning any Source game allows you to play Source MODs. That's how the Black Mesa Source MOD is going to work anyway.

Is this Free to play until the 24th, or is it like TTG's offers where you can download it for free until 24th (keeping your free version after that date)?

The latter. As long as you get to the page before the 24th, you own Portal. For good. For free.

I don't "hate" it, it's serviceable, but it's not exactly clean. Then again, I probably have a better experience because I'm always talking to someone on Skype as I'm setting it up, I've never randomly joined a Civ IV game.

How about singleplayer games in which your save files are stored online automatically(as well as, of course, the local copy)? Do you have multiple computers that can play a game, for instance? I can go between my desktop and my laptop while playing, for instance, Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, and Steam remembers my progress between the two. I wish more games used this feature, it's really very neat.

Also, the idea of disliking all multiplayer games seems insanely asinine.

That's already answered in the first post. If you add Portal to your Steam account between now and May 24th, it'll be yours forever, for free.

Downloaded! I was just considering buying this game, too, but held off to see if I could find it for a lower price.

Ian has been downloading it for about an hour and it isn't nearly done. Is it supposed to be that slow?

It's not supposed to, but the servers are being hit hard by everyone trying to download Portal at once.

I'm not 100% on this because owning Half-Life: Deathmatch or Portal: First Slice (which is just the first few test chambers basically) are specified as not being eligible to run Garry's Mod because they were free to peeps with certain graphics cards, so maybe free Portal doesn't count as well... probably not, but maybe

Thats a bit too much of a sweeping statement for my liking but I know what you're saying. I have a friend who i argue with about this all the time because he "doesn't want to play with the inferior people" and can't see the depth in any multiplayer game. He's the master of sweeping statements, even putting yourself to shame Mr. Dashing. Normal procedure is to call him an unadventurous dick and open up TF2 whilst he watches to piss him off

The only real issue with Steam that I have is that the flimsy wi-fi connections I work with won't let me play my games wherever I want, whenever I want, which shouldn't really happen. "But isn't it the connections' faults?" Not exactly, see, Steam should and has an offline option, but because it constantly needs to update, if I go somewhere where the wi-fi won't connect to Steam for whatever reason it'll be stuck on "updating" before asking if I want to start it offline, but then it won't start at all because it's not updated. Thus I can't play if I can't open the program.

This is the entire game though. And Portal is listed as including the Source SDK here. So I would think it does support Source mods.

I'm now able to download Source SDK when I wasn't able to before, if that helps anybody.

You have to pay for Garry's Mod, though.

MusicallyInspired I love you for informing us! I've been meaning to get this for ages ever since my brother introduced it to me. but I keep spending my money with Telltale instead. Isn't it nice how things work out!

Yeah but you need a Source game to run it regardless, it doesn't seem to come with all the Source gubbins

This should allow Valve to see what kind of user base they're going to have out of the gate with Mac owners.

Deal was too good to be true, my little brother told me about it and I started downloading it right away.

Already beat it twice, and are working my way through the advanced maps now

Nice, though I wish it had been one of the adventure games

I think I will enjoy Portal until the levels become too difficult for my feeble mind.
