Default Launcher Crash

I was going to start another playthrough of Sam and Max Season 2 but when i tried starting Ice Station Santa, the laucher would just crash. I only would get the generic windows vista error message. All the other episodes start just fine. I tried reinstalling and using the patch that was on some thread here but nothing worked. Tried updating DirectX but it did nothing.

Then out of curiosity i tried starting ToMI games and they would have the same problem. Also Episode 1 of Sam and Max Season 1 would not start and its a DVD version i bought ages ago. I have no idea what could be wrong here and could use some help..

Edit: Oh yes i redownloaded the Ice Station Santa Episode but even then it would not launch. Ok the other episodes on Season 1 don't work after all after i did some digging and found my DVD. I just assumed becasue the the episodes asked for the disc that they work, sorry.

Please post a dxdiag log and try a clean boot.

dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Then zip the file and attach it to a reply in this Thread.

Booting clean in Windows Vista / 7:
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Load Startup Items
4. Select the Services tab
5. Check Hide all Microsoft services
6. Click Disable all
7. Click on OK
8. Click Restart.
9. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.

After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click Ok
4. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer

Based on Will's post

I noticed that your regional setting is Finnish. Do you have any Special Characters (Others than a-z) in your Windows user name?

Also your Sound drivers are rather old:

Try installing the latest X-Fi Drivers.

Also update to the latest Nvidia Graphics Driver.

If all that doesn't help install the latest Realtek HDA Drivers as well, but remember to set your standard audio output back to x-fi afterwards if you don't want to use Realtek HDA for that.

I saw that too late, but installing the latest drivers is also advisable.

If the clean boot worked then some Application that you disabled during clean boot interferes with the game.
Most likely it is some security software suite. You can try disabling only that and see if the game works. If it does look for updated signatures and application versions of that software.

Setting your display color depth to 32 bit should fix the startup issues.

You should also install the latest Audio and Video drivers from Lenovo.
