Default New Employee Error - Hint is wrong!

One of the hints on the puzzle "New Employee Error" gives you a section of passing that isn't in the solution.

Just thought you should know

P.S. The scroll bar for puzzles doesn't appear automatically either.

I just checked this, it does appear that if you follow the hints given for this puzzle it can't be solved.

Came in here to post this, since this is where I'm stuck right now. Tried two different solutions, which were not accepted, activated the hints and I immediately thought "That cant be right, can it?"

And sure enough it didn't work with the described way.
Please, please fix this in a patch, Telltale guys!

There are only two complaints I have with this game so far: this and the fact that the "code" in the hotel room puzzle is A) arguably not a code and B) only one digit long when you have two digits to put in. From the second I saw that I assumed the sign has to represent two digits and so never thought to look for a verbalization or any other solution. I mean, even small town hotels often have more than ten rooms, don't they?

Apart from these two issues I'm having a BLAST playing and can't wait for an episode two! *fingers crossed*
I really hope Telltale can do something about this!

Yes, which is why you can have 99 as answer!

I don't see the problem...

Well, the problem is that the answer is one digit and it is EXTREMELY misleading to have a two digit interface with a one digit solution, especially if there is no indication in the hints of this AT ALL, which is the case as far as I remember.

I call this substandard puzzle design, because I have no chance of knowing or even deducing the solution the first time I try that puzzle, unless I try EVERY SINGLE FREAKING NUMBER between 0 and 99.
Every good puzzle is solvable the first time you try, however long it takes. This IMO is not reasonably solvable if you interpret the 'code' as morsecode-like symbols, without a hint that it might be something else.

This is a reason why the current hints are basically useless, to me at least. And I seem to not be the only one having problems with this if you look around the forum. As I already said, I like the game a lot, I'm just giving my feedback on what I think could be improved and for me this was unfair and frustrating puzzle design.

I will shut up about this now and hope that someone involved in the production of this game reads this.

It is a puzzle you are supposed to solve, not guess. If it didn't have 2 digits, then you could just put all the numbers from 1 to 9, but since it has 2 digits, it forces you to actually think to be able to solve it.

Also, you can put in 09 and it works so I think two digits is perfectly fine.

Both 9 and 09 work.

Sure, there is a lot to say about the puzzle that's bad, but I don't think "there are 2 possible digits while the answer is 1 digit" is good critisim.

It's like wanting a puzzle to be "pick a number between 1 and 20", but since the answer is 2, only allow one digit answers (automatically hinting the player 10-20 are wrong).

That is a fair point, I have to admit. My primary complaint was that the picture in the last hint can quite easily be read in a wrong way and I just would have liked a hint that was a little less vague.

I read it as the first 'N' part being a symbol for one number, the 'I' as a separating space and the remaining 'NE' as a symbol for a number that's higher than the first one, so I didn't even get the idea that it could have been one digit.

But, again, I can see where you are coming from with this.

I don't see a problem with it. The possibility of a second digit shouldn't have thrown you off, because the puzzle itself was a visual one that should lead to only one conclusion if you discover what you are looking at. I'll admit before I noticed it I had no clue what I was supposed to do and probably would have tried to make up my own way to decode it to make any sort of sense. However, I don't think the possibility of a second digit should have mattered in getting it right or wrong.

As for it not being a code, I think the point was she thought it was a code and Nelson Tethers being the Puzzle Agent he is was supposed to realize her mistake and see the simple solution. Think back to the fuse puzzle too. That arguably wasn't a code either, but a visual puzzle that you have to look at for awhile before it pops out at you.

Also I agree about episode 2. It should be made!

Even if they *do* have more than ten rooms, people could still be placed in the single-digit rooms, you know!

Isn't that the entire *point* of lateral-thinking puzzles?
