Maybe it's because I felt the first game was boring as balls and decided that a large breasted woman wasn't enough to keep me coming back, but I feel that the new Tomb Raider game looks freaking good. It actually makes me want to play it.

Honestly, the new Tomb Raider (which badly needs a subtitle or websites'll get it confused with the very first one) reminds me of Assassin's Creed III. The whole open-world, hunting animals, climbing and jumping... I can't help but see a lot of similarities between the two. Good? Bad? I dunno. Just saying what I'm seeing.

Funnily enough, I always made her wear full sets of clothes as well (although not quite heavy coats and the like) because it just made logical sense. Why the fuck would you go adventuring in hot pants? Wouldn't they chafe after, like, 5 minutes? Appreciate Crystal Dynamics giving me the option to do so though, that was nice of them.

The first Tomb Raider game - which I played when it came out in 1997 on my PSX - was a completely unique gaming experience back then and essentially set the tone for a lot of exploratory action adventure type games afterwards. It was about my favorite PSX game after Final Fantasy VII. Toby Gard has a strong sense of level design, and one particular TR design/motivation feature which was borrowed by other game makers afterwards was to have a central "HQ" point in a level to which you return repeatedly after exploring the adjacent areas. Maximum open world experience - minimum travel path length.

Still I am personally of the opinion that the original TR hasn't aged well - I strongly favor the 2007 remake, sad to say.

None of the Core Design ones have, to be honest. The core (heh, I made a pun) gameplay is just too slow paced, the levels too blocky (though that was kind of the point, I guess) and the visuals too murky to really appeal to a more modern audience.

Case in point, I tried to play through Tomb Raider 2 a while back, and I got as far as the Arctic level before giving up, but even before then the slightly awkward level design and the boringly slow pace just made it more a chore than anything else. Having played the more recent games the massive difference in feel was obvious.

Not so much. Also, the core gameplay was much faster paced, so it didn't matter quite so much.

I have played 2 Tomb raider games. I got Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness & Tomb Raider Legend. I also got Lara Croft & The Guardian Of Light with Playstation Plus...I should give it a try. I might get the first 5 PS1 games on the PSN now that they our down to 2 pound each for the Summer Sale. Also Crash 3 is one of the greatest PS1 Games ever.

The controls (try the stairs), the gameplay (build up strength mechanism sux), horrible level design.
