The Invention of Lying

I actually really like this movie. The concept is unique and brilliantly executed.
Ricky does an excellent job of making a main character thats really relatable.
His reactions are one of the best things about the movie.

I give it a 8.5/10!

Black Dynamite - 9/10. This is up there with Kung Pow! Enter the Fist as movie experiences you need to have. Now. In that's not enough to convince you let me tell you this. There is an extended fight scene involving Kung fu Nixon and a gun toting first lady duking it out with a kung-fu Shaft ripoff. If that doesn't convince you, I don't know what else to tell you.

Plan 9 From Outer Space - 0/11

The Terror of Mechagodzilla - 3/11

The Shawshank Redemption - 11/11 - Hard to believe this is Stephen King, cause it's actually good. I actually cried at the end of this movie, and I'm proud of that.

Big Momma 3 - 7.5/10

Not as good as the previous two, but much much much better of a threequel than Little Fockers. The singing felt very out of place though. If you disliked the first two, this one isn't going to change your mind.

Reefer Madness. So silly it has to be seen to be believed. Best served with a side-dish of RiffTrax.

I love that movie. lol But I'm a huge Godzilla fan so I'm biased. The only Godzilla movie I didn't like was the crappy 1998 American one. I hope the 2012 American one captures the spirt of Godzilla better.

Anyway, I just saw Unstopable the other day. It's a really good movie considering it's about a runaway train. LOL There's not much you can do with that plot but they pulled it off well and made a fun movie.

I agree with this completely. I watched Plan 9 a few years ago because I thought all the continuity errors would be funny but I fell asleep about fifteen minutes in because it was so boring.

It was fun because I watched it with my family, and we were all riffing it. My Dad isn't half bad at that, but then again he's watched MST3K and he knows what it's all about. Hilarity ensued.

I've wanted to get into the Godzilla movies for quite a long time. Admittedly, as a newbie to the series, having this as my first Godzilla experience probably wasn't a good idea.

Ace High - 10/11 - My first Terrence Hill and Bud spencer spaghetti western. Damn. Eli Wallach plays an incredibly cute, likable character in this movie. What I mean by cute is that he really plays up the puppy dog eyes in this movie. He's more charming than seedy like Tuco. The director really allowed the actors to eat up the scenery, and I wasn't complaining! A hilarious, fun spaghetti western with some great lines.

The Magnificent Seven Ride! - ???/11 - I have to watch this one again, because I'm not sure if I like it or hate it.

Breakheart Pass - ???/11 - Another good movie I hadn't seen before. This time a Charles Brosnan western set on a train. It has good suspense and a good plot, but it's a bit of a worn setting. Another one I have to watch again to be fully sure of it.

Kelly's Heroes - 11/11 - One of my all-time favorite films.

I watched it with a friend, intending to riff it, and we both fell asleep before we could come up with any good material. We ended up watching Attack of the Killer Tomatoes instead and a good time was had by all.

I think Godzilla is something you have to grow up watching to truely enjoy. However, I can recomend some Godzilla movies that I feel can still be entertaining to those just starting.

I would say try:
Gojira (The original Japan version)

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (It's the original film but the american release. Scenes with actor Ramdond Burr were added in)

Godzilla 1985 (This one is hard to find though. And the japan version which is better is even harder to find but I bet it's on youtube )

Godzilla 2000 (One of my favs. It's one of the few Japan ones that were release in american theaters)

Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidora: Giant Monsters All out Attack (Phew, a long title. But it is one of the better ones. Very cool monster fights)

Ugh.

Start with Gojira. You can watch the Showa series in any order you like, really, wile the Heisei and Millenium series have more of an overall story. All three have three separate continuities, original and two reboots, and this should be remembered when watching them.

Gojira defintiely has a lot going for it. For one, it's probably the the only Godzilla flick aside from the Millenium continuity Godzilla:Final Wars to have the humans do anything that's worth a damn. Also, the atmosphere is considerably darker that what you'd expect from watching later films of the franchise and it's probably one the best 'serious' takes on a Kaiju film.

I'd really recommend any of the films in the franchise save maybe two: Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Hedorah. The former because it is inane, pointless and Minilla can go die in a gasoline fire; the latter because it's anvilicious to the point of being a bit painful (Unlike Son this one can still be a fun watch, provided you have a copy of the dub and a group of friends willing to watch it with you).

If I had to list my top 5 recommendations for a Kaiju Newb though, it would probably go like this:

5.) The Terror of Mecha Godzilla (1975)

4.) Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972)

3.) Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) (NOTE: This one is obscure as hell, and it's a bit of a crime it is as it's definitely one of the more interesting Vs. movies of the Heisei films. With internet nerd culture being what it is though, I'm sure someone, somewhere has uploaded this, so if you find it, give it a watch.)

2.) The Return of Godzilla (1984)

1.) Gojira (1954)

Honorable Mentions: Godzilla: Final Wars (2004), Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995), and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001).

I should probably mention I'm in no way a Kaiju flick purist, just a fan. My intro to the whole genre was actually the early (bad) dubs of Shōwa and Heisei era Godzilla films my dad used to rent for me when I was 10 or so. Aside from the two I mentioned earlier though, they're all worth a watch, goofy though they may be at times.

Herzog's My son, my son, what have you done. 9/10 Interesting, different movie with a fantastic camera/setups, executive producer was Lynch.

I was about to say the same thing. lol Final Wars was a joke. I can't believe they ended the series like that. I mean, it had some cool scenes. And I liked that Godzilla kicked Gino's ass. But overall it was a dissapointment for me.

I watched Jurassic Park again. It still gets a 10 out of 10

Well, that and it's Final Wars. Barring any assessment of quality, the whole movie won't mean a damn to anybody who hasn't been watching these movies. It's seriously intended to be Godzilla Fanwank: The Movie. It doesn't stand on its own at all.
