I never had any trouble with 1st doctors missing episodes, since I LOVE radio dramas.
Side question, I read that "The daleks master plan" was the final appearance of the meddling monk, does anyone else think this kind of sucks? I liked the character, and don't know why the heck they wouldn't continue using him as a comical villian =)

Well, as for Troughton, he's wonderful, but the problem is he's the kind of Doctor greatly helped by seeing him in motion. He's much more frantic then his audio implies. However, his last season is full of classics and they are mostly complete, including the 10-part epic The War Games. Although be sure to dismiss half the stuff he says about Regeneration in Power of the Daleks, as it's all a bunch of lies and gets retconned (I believe he says he's actually just the First Doctor but aged backwards or something like that, complete poppycock).
As for the Monk, yes, he's gone. Another character gone forever that you may be surprised to discover is The Celestial Toymaker, although his return was planned numerous times but never surfaced other then in the audios recently. However, there are certainly some comedic villains, and there are definitely more nemesises of the Doctor coming, with one particularly memorable one coming during the Third Doctor era and staying with the show to the point he's met every Doctor but one on television (not counting Eleven, of course).
On another note; I actually quite liked the first part of Zagreus. Don't understand why it's quite so confusing to some people. I do like how the interim companion for the Doctor is a giant Cat, it reminds me a tad of Red Dwarf.
I'm going to watch the Poirot with Paul McGann within a few days, I have moderately high hopes.
