Default The Three Musketeers: The Game

No, don't worry, this isn't an announcement. It's just speculation.

Now I know TT has a lot on its plate right now, but I was just watching that 90's film of The Three Musketeers (the one with Charlie Sheen and Tim Curry) and while I had watched it a long time ago, I couldn't remember anything from it.
Of course, I found it very silly. But for some reason I couldn't stop smiling all the way through the movie. And that got me into re-reading Dumas book, and with all that I could feel an impulse in my chest to grab a sword and fight bad guys! A childish feeling I know, but an extremly fantastic one.

Now, that got me into thinking... What if TT made a Musketeers video game? I don't know how they could handle the adventure-game elements in that context, but it could be a lot of fun.

What do you think?

The way TTG handled the French in ToMI, I'd say please don't.

I've read two and a half of the musketeer books. The second one was abridged - served it right, because sometimes Dumas was just getting overboard. I consider the Charlie Sheen movie to be really meh, but then again, I'm still madly in love with the DiCaprio "Man in the Iron Mask" (despite the fact that I don't like DiCaprio ), which captures the adventures pretty well, but is not at all "true to the book".

The style of these books was really unique and I don't think something similar could be done today. The adventures of D'Artagnan & Co. were pretty exaggerated stuff. The exaggeration, however, was within the limits of the time of writing. I presume that today, one would have to be a rather sensible reader to experience the same kind of WTF that the people in Dumas' time were experiencing. If TTG were to recreate something similar, they'd have to exaggerate far more than Dumas did - thus ruining any resemblance to the original work.

Today, the musketeers work in reinterpretation and reboots (and oh so many have been attempted), but probably not as they were originally meant to be. As a fan of the books, I am pretty convinced that a game could only disappoint me. Even the inevitable fencing action sequences.

DeSinge said he wasn't French!

His knowledge about french royalty was also deplorable.

Nonetheless... that was his direction, whatever the character uttered.

DeSinge was supposed to be pretty much the worst French stereotype an American can conjure up.

But would a Musketeer game arm all the characters with muskets?!

There was a LA-style adventure called Touché: The Adventures of the Fifth Musketeer. Quite good, and it even runs under ScummVM.
