Default Ending Discussion (SPOILERS)

For those who've beaten the game...

What happened to the other missing people? Astronauts get them? Gone crazy by the lunacy ray?

Also, Puzzle Agent 3 in Bermuda? Any get a picture of that postcard so we can see if there is anything weird about it?

Astronauts got them is the right theory according to Jake in the review thread.

I don't have a screenshot of the postcard, but before Nelson puts the box on top of it, you can see in the trees, a skeleton wearing a business suit.

I'm confused as to why it didn't explain what happened to the astronauts? who they were? who was the astronaut contacting nelson? what happened to the missing people and why where they being taken?

I have to admit, the pacing was going very well until like the last 1/4 where it started sprinting instead and came off as rushed without explaining many things.

My big question is:
So Nelson goes against orders after being warned to stay away and continues his way to destroy the lunacy beam, we assume he must have assaulted some FBI agents in the process to get back to the site in that whacked out dream, etc, and then of course going mad and eventually destroying the beam by throwing it in the lake.

....And then he's just back in his office as if everything is normal???? Glori and Issac are now on Holiday and Nelson is just back to work as normal? It felt like there was a scene missing, why was he allowed back to his job after going against everything the FBI said??

I've heard this game has two separate endings similar to the Devil's Playhouse. I assume the endings are triggered by either winning or losing the last puzzle where Nelson is running to the lake.

I don't think you can actually lose that puzzle, though.

I know you can't lose it, but when I was playing I had failed to make three matches in time (playing in free play afterwards gives you unlimited time to make three matches) after five turns and the puzzle stopped and went to the next cutscene. I think it's reasonable to assume that's where the two endings come into play.

Edit: In free play, winning or losing the puzzle doesn't show you the alternate ending. Winning takes you back to free play, and as I said you have unlimited time so you can't lose after five tries.

Yes, but they are only slightly different. Both involve dumping the lunar ray emitter in the lake, and both feature the sasquatch.

So, wait, I solved that puzzle in time, whereas my friend didn't, but it seemed like we both got pretty much the same scene. What's the difference in 'em?

If you finish in time Agent Tethers throws the emitter on the lake, and then the sasquatch roars to break the ice. I'm less sure about what happened when you don't finish in time, but I think it's something like Tethers dropping the emitter in the snow, and the sasquatch picking it up and dunking it in the lake or something to that effect.

In either case the day is saved, so there isn't a material difference. Just a slightly different cutscene.

Actually, I did lose the minigame (either I didn't understood what to do, or how to do it, or both), and got the second ending Soultaker said (Nelson trips over a tree branch and drops the emitter in the snow, then Chewbacca picks it and throw it in the lake)

Is that the only difference or does something differ in the final scene (at the office)?

I don't really know. Tomorrow I'll replay the whole game to get better results
(and unlock "King's Challenge") and get the other ending by wining the minigame. I'll tell you then.

I didn't notice any difference at all, except maybe that completing the challenge is required to unlock the King's Challenge. Still not sure what the exact preconditions for that one are.

Somehow this reminded me of Lost and Half Life.

Wow, really? How did you do that? I've completed everything except the King's Challenge, and it's still just Nelson and his oven mitt.

My first thought when I saw that figure in the bushes was that it was one of the Silents from Doctor Who.
