Sue Vertue has confirmed filming'll be at the beginning of next year, which put the series at most likely airing around Halloweentime 2013.

Looks like Beryl Vertue is concerned.
TVTropes links to this article from January - http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...k-6292682.html

Apparently the people behind "Elementary" had already been refused permission to do an official remake of "Sherlock".

(Incidentally, I've got this great idea for a British television series about the police. We'll call it SOCO: Scene of Crime Officers, and have all the forensic scientists taking over the entire investigation for no readily apparent reason. Then we can have no end of spin-offs - SOCO: Derby, SOCO: Chester-le-Street, and so on.)

Last edited by FitzoliverJ; 03/31/2012 at 09:04 am. Reason: Or do you think CBS will object to sharing that idea?

No, the people behind Sherlock offered to make an adaptation for CBS, which they refused for obvious reasons - when the people behind 'Coupling' (same studio) offered to make the US version, it was a failure in all regards.

Someone posted thoughts on the pilot script as they're an actor on a forum I frequent; nothing to worry about. It's not Sherlock Holmes; it's every other Hawaii Five-O/NCIS/Person of Interest Procedural with such little to differentiate it. There's really blatant references, apparently, that will make anyone familiar to the work cringe, and there's clearly intent for sexual tension between the two leads.

So it'll most likely be the #1 new drama this year, just as both the abysmal re-imagining of Hawaii Five-O and the tremendous waste of Michael Emerson's talent Person of Interest on CBS before it. And we can all shed silent tears.

If it's any consolation, CBS' blatant rip-off of Girl with the Dragon Tatoo pilot was cancelled before filming due to threat of lawsuit.

That's now been denied.

Hmm.... anybody ever seen any of those TV movie pilots where Sherlock Holmes is unfrozen in modern day America? Or the one where Larry Hagman gets a bang on the head and thinks he's the Great Detective?

Or, possibly my favorite adaptation ever, Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century?

Bad luck, but apparently PBS are cutting chunks out of "Sherlock" to make way for the adverts.

To be fair, it's entirely the viewers fault; they wouldn't need sponsors if the viewers donated to the station, one of the benefits of PBS. They did even harsher cuts on Downton (8x53 episodes cut to 4x90), which is a megahit here and over there.

They should totally ditch the Masterpiece Mystery intro by Alan Cumming. Delightful as it is to hear Alan Cumming introduce us to the story, I'd rather not see material cut for it.

(That said, whenever I see Alan Cumming in anything now I can't help but hope he'll tell us what's happening on tonight's Marple)

I've seen Cumming in exactly one role, but that one he fills so utterly perfectly that I will probably never be able to see him in another. Damn, I really hope the Good Wife makes it to Season 5.

Well, that's one way to differentiate your show.

The thing about a show that consists of 3 x 90-minute episodes to a season is that there is just not much to cut. It's not like American shows with 26 episodes each season that run on for years and have plenty of filler to pad out the good stuff. It's already tightly written and edited, so what you're losing is almost certainly good, relevant, and there for a reason.

Echoing the sentiment in that article, I really hope they do their own thing with this and don't just go for a US transplant of Moffat's series.

Default I hope Dave or somebody buy this for a UK showing

So, Sherlock Holmes settles in New York after a fall....

From grace. A fall from grace. Definitely not a literal fall.

This was one of the related links: Steven Moffat "Annoyed" By Sherlock Show Elementary, Fears Damage To "Brand"

I feel kinda bad for Moffat. Imagine how it would feel to put so much love into your own awesome show, turn down a US version, and then see those people go ahead and make an updated Sherlock in the US anyway.

From the trailer it looks like Elementary won't be anywhere near as good as Moffat's Sherlock. I'll probably check out an episode or two anyway, even if it's just going to make me sad.

I'm sure one of the preliminary reasons they've set an episode from eries 7 of doctor who in new York is so that moffat could kill of the American Sherlock with angels.

On a different note, Banglydan Colonelswacth didn't win Best Actor at the BAFTAs, nor did Martin Freeman, but Andrew Scott took Best Supporting Actor home. So yay.

Meh.
Incredibly meh. Though I do think Johnny Lee Miller could be good in the role. And the Google line is funny. But that's a lot of meh to get through to find the good parts.
