Actually, almost all the characters are from series that either are, or were, Playstation exclusives. The only character that's not is Big Daddy, who's included solely for rule of cool. And I've got no problem with that!
Before you say anything - the original Metal Gear Solid was a PS1 exclusive, there's been PSP games, and MGS4 is a PS3 exclusive. The Metal Gear series has predominantly been on Sony consoles.
And yes, I'm aware the new Dante is from a multi-platform game, but the original series was originally only on the PS2 before the recent HD collection. So it KIND of counts. Maybe.

A lot of great franchises broke ground on Sony's platforms no doubt about it. The problem is that Sony couldn't keep a hold of the IP's or developers, the GTA series was exclusive to Playstation whilst it was totally revolutionising gaming forever. Also Sony haven't been in the game as long as Nintendo, so they've fewer really established properties that feel like they have a long heritage. One of the most iconic they have there for me personally, is Parappa, and he's had a total of two games, three if you count UmJammer Lammy.
So really you have this roster that I feel either doesn't feel very unique to Sony,
or to touch back on what Chyron said, it doesn't feel as substantial to have them in a fighter as opposed to the likes of Kirby or Mario or Princess Zelda or Donkey Kong. But that's maybe me wearing my Captain N letterman jacket proudly.
Also obviously i'm clearly just gonna point at it and say "ORIGINAL IDEA. DO NOT STEAL. HURR!" like a dick.
