I agree. And the fact that Ron Gilbert stated "Yes, The Cave is an adventure game. It is not a puzzle platformer" makes me intrigued. So it's an adventure with platforming elements? It should be interesting to see how it plays.

While it looks good I don'think it will as great as people say it will be. Sure it's by Ron Gilbert but it looks like it's going to be a pretty short title probably for consoles. By the look of the characters they all seem to be fairly straight stereotype, which at this stage are slated as not having any dialogue. This seems like the sort of thing that Double Fine have been making recently games that are based round a basic mechanic or idea rather than around a story. These are great and are fun to play but also short which is why they are released through XboxLive. So while I feel it will no doubt by a fine polished game which has the same Ron Gillbert humour and the Tim Shafer experimentation, I doubt it will be a Gilbert or Shafer classic I will wait till they make a longer game (which there Kickstarter project sounds like) which will focus more on narrative and dialogue for that.

I don't think Ron's out to make an epic that's going to leave a lasting impression for generations to come like Monkey Island did. But I think it will be well designed, funny, and fun to play. Maybe if it does well, he'll do more. We'll see.

I almost hate how early games are announced and previewed these days. Damn, we got a video and still have to wait til 2013. Oh well, at least it's not Colonial Marines(pushed back yet yet yet again). Yes, this will be a day 1 purchase.

The stereotype isn't necessarily a bad thing and definitely not when you're going for humorous effect! Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle were chock full of stereotypes, and I really enjoyed that. Also, the style the Cave characters are drawn in DOES remind me of DoTT a bit.

But no dialog? Hmmmm... really??? That would indeed be a pity.

Disclaimer: I could get more than a bit angry with this production when Sega chooses to release this with unacceptable DRM, which definitely includes Steam.

Yeah, the cave appears to be some sort of narrator (or something), so there's definitely going to be plenty of opportunities for funny writing and wordplay.

I can understand them going the silent protagonist route, just because having a set of 3 characters from an interchangeable set of 6 quipping dialog lines at each other would be a logistical nightmare and even if done excellently would still probably result in obnoxious repetition within any given runthrough.
